New SAIX New Server

Anyone know what the IP address of the new server is? Will it work with non-standard ports?

Why, you thinking of making 32 connections to this one as well? For a total of 64? I hope not...

I can just see it. Some guys are going to be saying .... "What a novel idea. I mean why rape one when you can rape two?"
 
whats the point of having 32 connections anyway? its not like you going to have full speed by all the threads.
 
Greediness, plain and simple. Faced with a choice between 2 threads at 40kB/s and 32 threads at 50kB/s, most retards would choose the second.
 
if the adress is so widely advertised it will go back to normal soon

No need to. I only have 384 ADSL, so my max is 40KB anyway :(
I do use the script on my router to connect to both IS and SAIX at the same time though.

maybe they plan on hosting a paid server and then load balencing any extra (unused) capacity to the free one?

Hmmm, as long as they are aware that in 6 or 7 months they will be competing directly with the likes of Giganews! :D If they can keep it on cheap or free local bandwidth... and undercut Giganews... then it will be worth it.

I dunno how that works though... cos they are buying their feed from Giganews anyway! :confused:

OK I am tired so I hope u get this... maybe they will shape our access to giganews so we have to choose them. but counter-that logic is that there will be other ISPs to choose from... *touch wood*
 
Giganews undercutting SAIX is an interesting concept. You'll still need to buy Giganews GB at their going rate and then pay for the data. And it must be said you will be paying the same rate for data as you do for connecting to SAIX. So only way it can work is maybe with the likes of Vodacom, Neotel etc coming in under the SAIX R10/GB (or whatever the price may be). I'm also not too sure what kind of price / GB Giganews may be aiming at...

Like I have said before, I can't see how it would be profitable for Giganews to deploy a POP here. I don't think they even do the local POP thing.
 
Great but not all newsgroups are carried. Of the 3 I am interested in only 1 is available. But at least news.saix seems to be operational again so some load has been transferred

try textnews.saix.net if you are not after binaries. That service carries everything except alt.binaries.* as far as I know.
 
damm i left adsl , now i have to pay for news server access:( , maybe neotel could get 1 , i wonder when IS will introduce a 2nd news server
