No, from next month you have to spend R299, or above, to qualify for the extended free time data.

According to the table, the R99 package gives you midnight to 18:00 free-time... Confused :confused:

The table is wrong - in fact if you follow the link at the bottom of the article to the next article you'll find:

The ISP said the Free Time deal – which gave users 18 hours of free ADSL data daily – will end for those with a capped data package priced at less than R299 per month.

Hi Madhawk,

Please note that the table and article both state that the new Free Time policy comes into effect from 1 January 2017. All elements of the article should be accurate.

The article refers to Afrihost’s new capped ADSL packages – shaped and unshaped prices which come into effect next month so you should be reflecting the Free time policy that comes into effect at the same time. Not the old one. It could be misleading in it's current form.
 
This is going to get confusing now.

So lets say you throw in a R99 Afrihost Plus+ sub to your 50GB priority account .

R99 for 50GB Priority account and R99 for Afrihost Plus+ and then you get a extra 50GB of priority bandwidth I would assume and the extras like Simfy and 500mb mobile data.

So the R198 Afrihost 50GB + Afrihost Plus+ will be R1 cheaper than a 100GB Priority capped account for R199.


So Afrihost playing with the packages is getting confusing and unnecessary now I think.
 
I think this move of Afrihost was the worst choice ever. All they should have said is that the double your data promotion is costing them too much and they will stop it from the end of December. Now there are too many options too confuse everyone. I went capped because shaping was horrible and the ISP just said they are not throttling but then I can only download 5kb/s or something silly like that.

Free 500mb mobile data if you are clever :)
 
Choice is always a good thing. Personally I'll opt for double the data at the slight possibility of shaping, rather than less data which is guaranteed to be unshaped. I work from home which means most of my data use is during daytime when most other consumers are at work, I also don't torrent at all, then I occasionally stream a hour or 3 in the evenings, so chances that I'll anyway get shaped is very slim.
 
You have to read between the lines to understand the implications of each. For the techies out there, maybe the lingo gels. For the other 98%, it is a caveat emptor.
 
Just FYI - to stay on a 400GB unshaped capped product will now cost R799 + R279 dsl line = R1078 vs the R699 bundle before this whole story (unless I am way off on my calculations and understanding.....). That is a R379 increase (54,22%). Nice.

I think the likelihood of being shaped will very real if they continue to offer those R1 use-and-abuse accounts.
