Hey All

I am building a new system, and wonder if you guys would advice me on these specs, im thinking of the following...

I am studying advertising and use Adobe Cs3 alot photoshop, Illustrator at once, multitasking etc...

Processor
Intel Core 2 Quad E9300 2.5Ghz
Memory
DDR2 800Mhz 4Gb Ram

Hard Drive
Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200rpm 32 MB Cache

Dvd Writer
LG DVD Writer BLACK

Motherboard
P35/Raid Intel P35

Graphics Card
MSI NX8500GT 512MB

How is the following as a system?

What mobo would you guys recommend? Is the P35 good?

I dont game at all, so thats not something i need to figure in....

Also I have a Compaq/Hp nx6110 Notebook and it needs more ram, as far as i know it runs ddr 333 ram, where will i get this?

Thanks alot for the time...

I reckon this needs to be moved to the Hardware section but anyways...

That 8500GT is not a great pick - I have one...Go with an ATI HD3650 for a bit more cash.

Otherwise, it looks decent :)

People will tell you that you can't go wrong with a Samsung 2232GW. I have the 226BW myself and it's great :)

If widescreen monitors distort, I haven't seen it... As hj2k_x said, the 2232GW comes highly recommended by the forumites.

He is not gaming. He doesn't need any fancy graphics cards for what he's doing.

He could get away perfectly with a cheapo 8400GS.

Fair enough, but if he is going to buy new, and pay like R800 or whatever for a new 8500GT then he may as well pay a bit more and get a 3650..

I'd say go to Incredible Connection and have a look at the ones on display there - they have quite a few and it's always good to actually see a monitor before you go out and buy it.

The MB is ok. Those P35`s are solid. Not the best performers if you look to the x38/48 but for your buck, I think it has the best bang.

Remember, that if you go with 4 Gig you have to go to a 64Bit OS. It will work with a 32Bit but you lose +- 500mb of it. 32 can’t allocate that last +-500mb.

Then. I will also go for the ATI cards. They tend to have better image quality.
Then, if you can scrape the cash in, try to get rather a Quadro card. They are hell of a lot more expensive but worth your while when your going into the hole desktop publishing thing. Look at something like this:

PNY Quadro Fx370 - for professional 3D applications , hardware OpenGL 2.1+ directX 10 , support HPDR + HDCP , Pci-E 16x , 2.88 billion texels/sec , 66 million triangles/sec , 64bit 256mb DDR2 ( transfer rate : 6.4gb/sec ) , 12 pixel shader engine , 16 x RG FSAA , 1dvi + 1 x Dual-Link DVi + d-sub connector + s-video out - upto 3840x2400 on each display - retail pack -

Then Monitors. Go for something with the better contrast. It is not as much the dot pitch on the LDC the mess about, it’s the colour reproduction. Most monitors you wil get it right if you buy a colour calibrator. On the LG side. Go for something like this LG L1953T-BF 19" LCD, SXGA, 1280 x 1024, 5ms, Contrast 5000:1, DVI- Their colour is quite accurate. The Samsung are nice, also good colour.

Look at these reviews of monitors. They do it quite good.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/24inch-2.html

Here you will see at witch type of panel you should look at. NOT THE GLOSSY STUFF! if I remember correctly!

Dig around on that site, there are some other reviews of monitors somewhere there. You can also check out http://www.tomshardware.com/us/ and http://www.anandtech.com/ for more reviews of monitors. And…. Google is your friend.

Remember its your money. And that is my 2c

O. PS You say you are gonna get the stuff from Pinnacle. They will also be able to help with the RAM for the notebook. Just go make sure what is the max the norebook can handle. It will all be on HP`s site.
