Hi Guys.

Well i got about 12k to spend on a new PC im looking at getting the following.

Intel Core i5 4670K - 3.40GHz Quad Core, Socket 1150
GIGABYTE Z87-D3HP: Z87 Express Chipset: Socket LGA11508
8 Gig ram (Any advice on what brand?)
SAPPHIRE TOXIC R9 280X 3GB GDDR5
Case (Advice?)
Power supply (Advice?)

No hard drives needed, ill be using my current drives.
No Screen, mouse or keyboard needed.

Think i can get better? It has to be socket 1150 to cater for future upgrades.

This PC will mainly be used for gaming and movies ect...

Thanks

How does this sound?

-Intel BX80646I54670K Core i5-4670k 3.4GHz LGA1150 Quad Core Haswell CPU
-Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 Chipset LGA1150 Haswell ATX Desktop Motherboard
-G.Skill F3-2133C10D-8GAB ARES DDR3 2133MHz 2x4GB CL10 1.6V Desktop Memory
-PowerColor AXR9 290 4GBD5-MDH/OC Radeon R9 290 4GB 512-bit PCI Express 3.0 Desktop Graphics Card
-Corsair CP-9020051-WW VS650 650W Desktop Power Supply

And the price only: R12,377

Before you hit the reply button, I noticed I skipped the case. I would like to pose the question...

Seeing as you already have some components you must have a case lying around - Is a new shiny case worth not getting the R9 290? I dont think so at least. Plus there are alot of cases for R450 etc. Personally I would go for the R9 290 as it is the first new technology from AMD in a while and it rocks. Saving some money I would later get the corsair carbide 300 series case which is only R800 bucks.

I used the following link to calculate the PSU size, In my opinion this is the component that gets gold plated the most. People get huge power supplies and end up only ever using 60% of the capacity. For your rig 550W would be more than adequate, if you ever decide to upgrade to fire the having 2xR9 290s would need a 750W PSU. My logic is if you ever get to the point that you want to fork out an additional R6k for a second GPU then a new PSU would be less of a burden.

Oh and btw, G.Skill memory rocks and these Ares modules are super low so there will be no interference with any heatsinks what so ever. I also love Corsair PSUs and Cases.

Botom line - do what you have to so you can get the R9 290. Dont splurge R4k on a GPU thats as old as the mountains not when the r9 290 offers such good value for money.

Also I got the prices form wootware, landmark tends to be bit more expensive and Rebeltech the cheapest but all three are about the same give or take R50 bucks. Rebeltech should be ok seeing as you are not buying AMD CPUs or Mobos so you could shave off another couple of rands with them.

You can consider the PowerColor 290.

Case: Cooler Master Storm Trooper (one beautiful case!)

PSU: Don't get the VS650, it's not 80+ certified. Look at a PSU that is about 650W or higher, with 80+ certification.

nice thanks for the detailed reply Myboom, ill be getting my stuff directly from rectron and esquire so i should save enough to still get a case with the 12k

k dudes.

not all the specific items you posted are available on Recron.

this is what i got currently

Intel Core i5 4670K - 3.40GHz Quad Core, Socket 1150, 6MB L3, DMI Bus, 22nm, x64, Intel VT, Intel HD Graphics 4600 @ 350MHz,

GIGABYTE Z87M-D3H: Z87 Express Chipset: Socket LGA1150, 2.5GT/s DMI, Supports 4th Generation Core i5, Core i7 LGA 1150 Processors Only

Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3-2133MHz Kit (2x 4GB), Blue Vengeance Heatspreader

CoolerMaster HAF 912 Combat Black ATX PC Chassis - 4x 5.25" & 7x 3.5", 2x 2.5" Bays - 1x front, 1x rear mounted 120mm fan, 4x 120mm locations (Optional), No PSU

Corsair SP120 Performance Edition High Static Pressure 120mm Fan

CoolerMaster 750 GXII Series 750W Power Supply - 80PLUS Bronze Certified

PowerColor AXR9 290 4GBD5-MDH/OC Radeon R9 290 4GB 512-bit PCI Express 3.0 Desktop Graphics Card

This build would cost me 14k

Think its worth it?

Gona leave the RAM just found a 1600Mhz 8GIG stick in the drawer. Give me more cash to put towards the GPU

Where are you guys seeing the prices for the AXR9 290 ? I cant seem to find a decently priced one?

Yeah looks good. Eyeballing that I'd say you could get away with a smaller PSU unless you're planning to xfire.

I'd also suggest adding a SSD, if not now then soon. It would really be a pity to have such a stomping box slowed down by mech. drives.

lol nice

Decided to go with this case

CoolerMaster CM690 III Black ATX PC Chassis - 3x 5.25" & 7x 3.5", 10x 2.5" Bays - 1x front mounted 200mm fan,1x rear mounted 120mm fan, 6x 120mm locations (Optional), No PSU

Lots of room for that massive GPU and alot of bays for HDD's, also give me the option to water cool at a later stage

Ordering the stuff during the week, hopefully by the weekend this beast is up and running

Sorry im just wondering im looking for the FX-6300 and it seem like you're implying there are cheaper places to get AMD CPUS other than rebeltech. Could you provide me with a link? I have takealot for 1782 but thats free shipping so basically comes to same price but always a chance of getting a voucher.
