New Telkom pricing kicks in

Telkom is bleeding

This is a lame scrap they've thrown to the public, basically since they sold the golden goose (Vodacom), they're in a pile of "trouble" and they're trying to scrape new revenue streams from wherever they can.

Raising tariffs is a short sighted method of generating more income, just like cutting staff as they've done in the past. I think the raising of tariffs for the general public has over-shadowed the allowance greater(ish) bandwidth allowance. Be prepared for a wild ride as they try to generate revenue to fill the Vodacom gap.
 
Do not want to be a roumour monger, but a 1.86m tall brown haired Telkom employed birdie I know told me that we are in for a big Telkom ADSL announcement in September. Got to do with line rental and per Gig pricing etc.

Will have to see it to believe it.

Uh? Am I missing something?

As a Telkom Do1 subscriber, I have been hard capped at 1.5Gb every month for, dunno, most of this year. Now I'm getting hard capped at exactly 1.0Gb

That means the majority of Telkom ADSL subscribers are now getting a 33% SMALLER bandwidth bundle for the same price.

I agree with the comments of Broadcam- I was hardcapped at 3.03 Gb in July whereas previously I could go to 3.5 Gb at least with no problems.Looking at the summary of yesterday - 1st August -I am still restricted to 3 Gb so where is this 5 Gb Telkom has been bragging about ????

Please show us evidence of these volume purchase commitments, as the global standard is for interconnect pricing which does not carry usage limits. I highly doubt Telkom is paying for bandwidth on a volume based scheme, even though they'd like us to think so. Why then can the rest of the world afford to provide low cost internet access without minimal limits on usage?

Telkom also recently anounced the trippling of available bandwidth on SAT3, which could have been done ages ago through the replacement of the current multiplexors. Obviously they did no want to do so because this artificial shortage of bandwidth has suited their pricing scheme perfectly. Only now that they're faced with competition do they suddenly have the ability to increase capacity.

Just more evidence of their greed and complete disregard for client needs.

Misleading tbh...

Why does everybody insist to refer to one's monthly usage allowance as "bandwidth" ?
 
Because our minds tell us it's bandwidth we're paying for...it should be uncapped...but we are conned into believing that we can only have a little bit of that "bandwidth"...as capped gigs...

The tap should be open, with the water(bandwidth) flowing at a specific speed...for a specific price...as it is for telkom...

But we are being sold tiny little bits of "usage" as gigs...A glass of water at a time...

At exhorbitant rates...
 
so they increase normal phone prices and discounts adsl prices, in other words their prices have not changed?

But they don't turn off DSTV when they think that you have watched enough either.

I think they're hiking the price of line rental and dropping the per gig price. Telkom has been making noise about the cost of the 'last mile'. ]

They have said that they aren't making money here and that this has been subsidised for some time now. We'll hope for the best! :confused:

While no price cuts are in store for ADSL users, Telkom did announce that TelkomInternet all access 2GB and 3GB standard offering bandwidth customers will see their monthly usage limits increase to 3GB and 5GB respectively.

They cannot hike prices as they have already filed this year's tariff adjustments with ICASA.

However, they can either reduce prices or increases offerings...
 
Well I think its all an April fools joke. I got my Telkom account for August and all that has gone up is the cost of the line rental. My cap is exactly the same as it has been the past year and I dont see an increase cap value in my daily useage summary from Telkom so either there are two Telkoms and I have the "Bad" one or the whole story is a another load of Telkom ****.
