Well that's rather crappy, one stick per customer? So need to log in with a different email address to actually get a proper pairing?

I almost came here for help, I was stressing a bit... with the new RTX 5070 Ti installed, the PC was seemingly randomly rebooting. The pattern that emerged was that it seemed to be doing so at the slightest bit of load. I checked in the Windows System logs and this error was being spammed constantly:

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Component: PCI Express Root Port
Error Source: Advanced Error Reporting (PCI Express)

Primary Bus:Device:Function: 0x0:0x1:0x0
Secondary Bus:Device:Function: 0x0:0x0:0x0
Primary Device Name:PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A70D&SUBSYS_50001458&REV_01
Secondary Device Name:

Reddit helped me out, and the fix was to set the PCIe Link Speed in BIOS for the CPU and PCH to Gen4 in my case.

Though the price has now reverted back to double that, was that pretty good RAM? What's a good guideline for buying future-needed RAM that's going to be compatible with one's future motherboard if that exact motherboard brand and chipset is unknown?

Intel is a lot less iffy with regards to ram, AMD can have a fit now and then. DDR5 6000 CL36 should be fine for both intel and AMD. Sticking with known brands, the big 3 basically asus, gigabyte and msi, motherboard wise. Pretty much any ram from known brands, that uses either hynix or samsung.

I wouldn't spend too much on ram as a means for future proofing as DDR6 is coming out at the earliest Q4 2026 to Q2 2027.

Oooh. Only just noticed this thread for the 1st time.
In the market for a cheapish gaming pc. Either that or an XB Series X or PS5.
So that means I'm looking at the R10K to R15K range.

Way back in my single dude hey day i used to be a nerd and built a couple of pc's.
('im old enough to remember the very first ATI graphics card from experience and Voodoo 3dFX.!!)
But I havent tinkered with PC's since about 2005.... so yah. 20 years feels like a lifetime.

Tips? Build self (any risks nowadays?) or buy some all-in-one?

Yeah you'll need to go second hand for any of that. You've not been checking prices

@Lupus

Sigh ended up getting this case.....the one I said was ugly, the one you recommended. Well wootware wants to charge me R215.00 for shipping on a R599.00 case, so almost half the asking price in shipping. Get rekt wootware.....

With this my builds are almost officially over............well.....Waiting for the refurb drives, to check them out, then I will officially be done........I FCKING hope so.....It is getting pricey....

It's ain't a bad little case :) yeah it's not pretty. But it does the job and easy to work in and decent price.

yeah it will most definitely will do in a pinch. it is kinda shitty that wootware wants to charge so much for shipping. Anyways Amazon some how manage to ship the case within an hour after the order. It was free shipping at that, all other cases had a R70 shipping fee, which to be honest is a bonus.

The current case is an old P4 era gigabyte case, which really isn't suited to the build.

Either way the case ended up being a birthday present. Just glad I could arrange the 2Tb hard drives, for 599 a pop, I have no idea on the current smart details. I can only assume it isn't anything remotely close to my current smart details. Because I ordered online, I at least get 6 months warranty.

So will have to wait and see, if all is good and has low power on time, will get another 2 drives.. It is better than paying 1.6+ a drive if new, because honestly , power on time is for the most part meaningless it is the head read and write cycle that matter the most, as that is where the most wear and tear occurs.

With the exception of maybe ordering additional hhd's, only thing I really need is to replace the crappy keyboard for the back up system.

Fck me if I account for everything it is closing in on 17k. when the fck did the pc hobby become so fcking expensive. Still glad I was able to upgrade when I was able to upgrade, the upgrade now would be nearly 3.5k more compared to august. I would have liked to get at least an rx 570 for the second build but fck me. people are asking 1.3k for a rx 570 which to be honest is waaaaay too much. But given the current AI fck up, is just keeping prices artificially high. Which I rather call taking the piss...........

The only thing that I have some far find annoying is the bias people have towards intel 14th gen. Sure they royally screwed up on the current instability issues , but I think as a conspiracy, more than likely intel didn't send the correct info the mobo manufactures.

Always, it's always been expensive :-)

Well doesn't feel like it. Had a specced out q6600 system with 8800GT back in the day. This was 2007 just before the huge ass global economy saw it's ass, Rand was still trading a R6.5+- to dollar.

Had the XFX 8800 GT XXX Alpha Dog Edition, if remember correctly, paid just over 3k for it.

Build the entire system for less than 10k

Sure but how much were you earning? Plus tech has moved on quite a bit since then, GPUs are far far more advanced then they were.

7.5k. Not really with the exception of the die shrinking, the 88XX series cards had cuda and DX10 support. 88xx series cards were the first to add DX10 support. New cards today has more or less the same DNA, with the exception of the RT cores and more cuda cores. I would argue it has gotten more complex. There is only 10 generational upgrades between the 88xx and current 50 series.

If you ignore the refreshes, laptop versions ect.
