New The PC Build Thread

Lian Li pulled out of SA several years ago so can't help with the case, which the build revolves around. However, here's an idea of how much better you can do for around that price:

Click Me

CPU: Same same
Cooler: Similar performance for half the price
Motherboard: Similar, just losing Wi-Fi (real men use LAN cables)
RAM: Twice the capacity, higher frequency, added RGB
GPU: Far faster
SSD: Almost double the speed
PSU: Similar
Case: M-ATX, but different. Includes 5x fixed-mode RGB fans

I am just looking for a case that fits into a modern home (Can connect to tv in living room and it doesn't look like a space ship)

Can always use teh current 3060 I have and then maybe upgrade to the 4060ti in a month or two.

impressed with wootware sales team, they went above and beyond building my rig. ordered my cpu from their supplier(they didn't have stock) and when I mentioned in email that had made incorrect choice instead of binding me to the purchase they went through the extra admin of getting me sorted. very rare in todays pay and go shop mentality. even evetech with all the slack they get here, never a problem both on orders placed and returns(RMA) see some names here like Progenix and the like active on forums helping ppl with suggestions.. u guys make life easier for noobs and pro's alike. thank you all!

Yep, Wootware and Progenix are the best!

Yeah used them in the past, think Wootware and Progenix are probably your two best options in SA.

NEw build if I can sell my current PC

Quick comment on the build - I don't think a 7600 needs a cooler from everything that I've read. And you can buy a Gold 650W Superflower PSU for much the same price as the Bronze 750W. But this won't make much difference to the overall price.
I bought a PC from Wootware recently where I wanted a partially built machine that had been tested. They were very helpful when I hit snags because of hardware incompatibilities (firmware in my graphics card that was not UEFI compatible). So I ended up buying two additional items that I hadn't planned on. My only small complaint is that I received two and not four SATA cables, and I need to use all four ports.

2 Is the norm for motherboards. Back in the day the fancy ones came with extra cables, now though, even the 15k boards come with the bare minimum.

This Phoronix article explains in a simple way how AMD's new 3D V-Cache Optimizer driver works in Linux (and how it should work in Windows):

AMD posted the 3D V-Cache Optimizer driver for Linux last October and now with the Ryzen 9 9950X3D launch is the first new product from AMD since the driver was mainlined back in Linux 6.13 to be able to make use of it. Via the driver's sysfs interface the cache vs. frequency preference can be set to affect the CPU core reordering depending upon whether you're wanting new tasks to try to be placed on the higher frequency CCD or larger cache (3D V-Cache) CCD.

...

On Linux 6.13+ and when the kernel is built with the AMD_3D_VCACHE Kconfig option, on a Ryzen X3D processor like the Ryzen 9 9950X3D it's possible to read the current preference via the /sys/bus/platform/drivers/amd_x3d_vcache/AMDI0101\:00/amd_x3d_mode sysfs interface. By default for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D it was using the "frequency" preference as default. But if writing "cache" to /sys/bus/platform/drivers/amd_x3d_vcache/AMDI0101\:00/amd_x3d_mode it will prefer using the CCD with the larger cache. This cache vs. frequency bias can all be easily manipulated at run-time for those interested.

...

For yesterday's Ryzen 9 9950X3D Linux review all CPUs were benchmarked at their defaults on Linux 6.13. For this article is running through all of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D benchmarks again after setting the "cache" mode with the 3D V-Cache Optimizer driver. No other changes were made to the system during the testing besides opting for the cache preference.

It is basically a bias switch. This has long been implemented with Threadripper, and I have no idea why it isn't being made available to Ryzen 7000. Neither how this behaves between Windows and Linux, nor does it work on Windows 10. For the database (whitelist) driver to work on Windows, I see that it needs the Windows Game Bar. For CPUs not yet supported, don't expect hectic gains; the averages will be higher, and some games might have better 1% lows.

Got notification that my new rig is out for delivery today! Im a 3d artist so im running this with my 5950x for 32cores of sweetness :)

yes, i even max out 128GB ram. and im moving my 4090 over to this rig. my "old" rig will be using remote desktop and a basic gfx card (the 5950x cant do onboard display).

In terms of brands, boards, NVME drives. i stuck with what i knew. my current wootware rig is bulletproof, 4.5yrs of hrs of daily rendering, more read/write than most users due to drive cache usage constantly.

One thing im very curious about is to see my game framerates as i was heavily cpu limited at 1440p on every game except cyberpunk.

Would think someone with those nvme requirements would avoid slc/HMB drives.

Also.. Asus sticker tax for that psu :P Could have used a 1000w titanium superflower, More than enough power and better quality at half the price.

By the time you upgrade to a beefier gpu there will most likely be some new gimmick regarding the power connectors/rails. No reason to future proof at double the cost.

1. it works it works. i had failures with WD at my previous studios

2. I got the Asus 1200w because superflower 1300w is not available. also i can just swop my superflower 1300w into the 9950x when i transplant the 4090. I just needed the rig asap as i have tons of render work the next 2 weeks. the income of the work greatly offsets the cost of your sticker tax

chill out dude :)

Hi, if I want to play around with overclocking and or undervolting my GPU, is a Leadex III up to the task? Voltage regulation etc. okay?

Yes, Leadex III is an A-tier PSU

I’m undervolting my 3070ti - 750W version
