New The PC Build Thread

I currently have a 9600k and would like to upgrade to a 9900k but can't find one. Would you guys settle for a 9700k? Looks like 25% increased performance roughly.

Surprising that there are still new stock, but yeah it is old so it's probably why you don't find it.
I've currently overclocked my 9600K and it seems stable for now. There is hardware posted recently even older than the 9900k.

You just have to get lucky with the timing when you browse.

Aren't they upgrading to a newer platform? I mean I'm still on am4 so I cannot really comment.

New PC:

CPU : Intel i5-14400F or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X (same-ish price)
Motherboard : Gigabyte B760 Gaming X or ....don't know AMD boards
Ram : use my old DDR4-3000 if possible
All the other stuff I have already, it's mainly just board + cpu + cooler

I was just about to buy the Intel when I read up on Intel failures etc, is that a thing?

It is a thing. I would steer clear.

Is this for work or gaming? If you can squeeze a 5800X3d, even secondhand, it would be your best bet if it's for gaming.

work is just emails and surfing mumbo jumbo. The odd games every now and then :)
I think the price then starts to go through the roof, the 5800X3D goes up by like R2k...

Just get the 5700x3d? It's almost the same

The intel failures thing is mostly on higher end CPUs in the 13th and 14th gen think 700 tier and up. The lower end hasn't seen much impact. So you'd be safe if you aim at 14400 etc.....but idk AMD is just a safer bet right now.

Ok then I might be able to squeeze this out :

Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX + Ryzen 5 7600 + 64GB DDR5 6000MHz Kingston Fury Ram

Why when I want to spend R4k I end up going to R10k 😂

Tell me about it. I was looking at a 5800X3D a while back, ended up with a B650 Gaming X AX, 7800X3D, 32GB DDR5-6000 and a 4070Ti.

I know that there was a massive difference between the 5600 and the 5600X. Maybe just confirm the differences between 7600 and 7600X

You mean there wasn't a massive difference?
The big difference was the 5700 to the 5700x, as the 5700 was more of an 8 core 5500

You could still save some money if you go 7500f and 32gb ram for now....I mean 64gb is nice but we're not there....yet 😁

Also upgrade path is still wide open with that config.

The 7500F hasn't been in stock for quite some time now, several months.

hardly any different between the X and non X 🤷‍♂️
