New The PC Build Thread

DRAM prices are flying right now

If anyone wants to grab 2x gigabyte 1070 in jhb let me know, got a mate who i moving to Spain

I just ordered that X99 xeon setup to replace the backup system

Comes with X99 board and 12/24thread xeon E5 2650 V4, and for now 8gig ddr 4

What I meant was, I am banned from upgrading. Yeah been keeping an eye on carb. 6th gen kits ain't cheap, around 1.5. This just works out cheaper, than carb.

At least I can sell the old kit and get some money back at least..

Nothing much I can do about the low ram amount, but it will be quite an improvement CPU and performance wise over the old kit

That E5 is pretty old, we had them in machines 8 or 9 years ago already. They were pretty beastly back then 12 cores, had 2 in each machine.
The replacements were second gen Epycc chips with 32 cores.

I see it's cl38 there was g force delta 32 for R 2100 would it be a better buy?

It would depend on the CPU/MB whether it can use the better latency and frequency. I also have the T-Force in my machine so would say yes because of confirmation bias so you can't trust me.
They are also quite tall so make sure they fit under your cooler.

:)

In that case the T-Create are fine. The CPU doesn't need over 5600 MT/s so the T-Create at 6000 is fine. You would also need to change coolers or mod the current one as the T-Force are a few mm too tall for that cooler.

mmm wonder what height will work i see the tcreate is 32mm but the g-force is 46mm

I believe it clears up to about 42-43mm ram.

Go look at the the reviews for the T-Create though its a good choice.

Thanks yeah will check out stats tomorrow and ask chat gpt to run some scenarios

Yeah also doesn't appear online strange will check how much stock they have when I head there next weekend..
If they still have it....I wouldn't count on it, you should have gotten it on the spot.

The same for the m.2 drive....I don't like playing the chance game, especially with the current prices lol

Went this morning and bought a Teamgroup and T-Force pair, will see which one fits better into teh rig and sell the other one. Still 2-3 sticks left for those still looking

Nice :) Someone looking to make some profit :D

But yeah don't sit too long on that M.2, prices is rapidly spiraling on that next.

In other news still don't have my HDD's, no tracking info, it would seem they don't send that info out, Kinda shitty. I have shyte to do. kinda expected shipping to be shitty. With tracking I can at least monitor and know hey it is out for delivery and plan around that.

It is hdd's I would prefer it travel and get handled as little as possible. Partserv uses JDG couriers, so I know I am in for a rough ride here, with the exception of courier guy every other courier is slow as shyte out here. If I don't get any info by lunch will fire off another email.

Need to get those HDDs installed I am running on borrowed time, with the bad one.

I am planning to upgrade my PC by building a new system. My current setup is a Skylake i5-6500 with 16GB RAM and an RX 580 8GB GPU.

I would appreciate your thoughts on the following Wootware PC Builder configuration. The system will primarily be used for gaming and will also serve as a Plex media server (media stored on external drives).

Typical gaming usage will include:
  • ARPGs: Titan Quest, Grim Dawn
  • RPGs: Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Gothic, The Witcher
  • RTS: Age of Empires, Warcraft, Starcraft
  • FPS: Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein

My long-term plan is to upgrade the CPU after the Zen 6 refresh (projected for mid-2028) and potentially increase RAM to 48–64GB at that time.
