New The PC Build Thread

Hi guys.
Need some advice quick before I pull the trigger this morning.
My i7 8700 32GB machine is really starting to sukkle - especially with Battlefield but also a few other games lately.
A R20k DDR5 AM5 setup is out of the question.
I have carved an upgrade path to a 5700x & decent B550 motherboard for about R3k (once I have sold current hardware).

On one hand I am concerned about spending anything on a old platform but on the other
1) it is only 3k
2) 5700x seems between 20% and 50% faster
3) there actually might be an upgrade path still with a new 5800X3d https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-to-bring-back-ryzen-7-5800x3d-as-am4-10th-anniversary-edition

Any thoughts or am I overthinking? Really looking for a boost in fps to last me a few years. I have confirmed I am CPU bottlenecked.

Seems fine choice , ddr5 ram super pricey even the chips has been coming down in price.

You can get 5700x and later get 5800x3d which be relaunching very soon

Where are you sourcing the CPU and motherboard from..?

Go for it at R3k. At the very least you can then resell that to upgrade again in the future.

That is with an RTX5080 at ultra settings. The pricing difference from a 5600 to a 5700x isn't really worth the bump up, especially if you're replacing it soon enough. So look at saving R1500

I see DLSS5 is set to arrive soon. I don't expect any Nvidia GPU below RTX 40 to support the whole stack. The RTX 50 does have bespoke neural hardware, and I am not talking about "AI" cores, I am talking about compression using neural rendering.

English please

Yes, yes, it is not a desktop PC, but it is a handheld PC,

Not bad going by Intel's claims. It seems that Nvidia was also involved with this...

So excited sales going be going very good on this!
Yes I did not pull the trigger on the 5700x. Even though the cost of upgrade was negligable the performance gain was too meh. I would rather spend the extra R3k and get this.
Still annoying to be spending so much on an old plaform but then I look at what a AM5 platform would cost me and get happy again.

What are you coming from? The x3D chips are insanely good for gaming. My 5700x3d is basically not that far off my 9700x

Intel 8700 from 2017 I think... 6 core 12 thread. It has been a beast but now a few games are being CPU bottlenecked.

Hmmm so you'd just need a new board and chip as that is still ddr4 memory.
The 5700 is almost 40% faster then the 8700 + newer tech. Though look at the 5500x3d if you want something just for gaming, it's not a production chip at all, but it will crush the 8700.

Yeah need a board as well but you can pick them up very cheap both new and 2nd hand. RAM obviously is the main issue and I already have 32GB of good RAM. 32GB DDR5 is a fortune.

I've watched countless videos of 8700 vs 5700x and in Battlefield especially it seems like the difference is not 40%. Maybe 20% (but better 1% lows). 5800X3D is right up there with 9600x and 9700x so I am happy to spend less than half the amount to get similar performance (and accept dead end platform but I think 5800x3d is good for a long time still).
