I just scooted the cooler up a bit :-) but then again the AK620 is a massive cooler, you can't see my RAM under it.

I tried, but it's just like 1mm in the way. I was thinking of scraping/cutting some of the fan off lol, but that seems exessive. CPU is running cool so no point.

The RAM is also quite tall. If I bought boring RAM it will probably fit.

Yeah possibly :-). Even with boring RAM I couldn't get the Peer Assassin to fit on my sons mobo, it also has the fan adjusted just over it. Sigh mobo manufacturers need to shift their ram modules nowadays with coolers.

Yip, or I could a get liquid cooler at some point in the future, but I'm not a big fan of those.

My previous mobo worked fine with my current setup, but I had to replace it when it packed up. Bought the same one, but the DDR5 version, which is now the one with the RAM too close to the CPU :X3:

I also do the same - my cpu cooler faces the rear exhaust and is set to exhaust as well. My 3 + 3 front/side intakes maintain a heavy positive pressure. Reason: Ram Clearance. I'm not willing to shift the fans >6cm, so I just swapped it over. Tried smoke test, airflows still good.

Can vouch for the PC-Builder Typhoon Ice 120mm rgb cooler that I got from Progenix

4 copper heat pipes and 200W TPD. It runs the cpu ice cold on my Ryzen 5 5500, and the gaming/production 9950x as well, even during 50-90% cpu extended load with no throttling - all for R200 odd.

I'm thinking about getting some upgrades for my current pc as it's limited by the CPU and the mobo, and I don't see anything on Carb that is drawing my attention. This is what I have at the moment:
  • Processor (CPU): AMD Ryzen 5 8500G
  • Graphics Card (GPU): RX 9060 XT 16GB
  • Motherboard: MSI A620M-E Pro (AM5 / DDR5)
  • RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) Patriot Viper Venom 6000MHz DDR5 RGB

This is what I'm looking at:

I could swap the CPU to a Ryzen 5 9600X, but I think the X3D would be better for me. Any thoughts?

I would hold off a bit, the next am5 CPU to be released is a beast with 12 cores around Q1 next year, if you willing to hold off, zen 6 will kick ass and you will have no reason to upgrade to 1st or even second gen a6m chips, and you can entirely wait out the early adopters tax for am 6 and DDR6.... 8500 isn't by any means a terrible CPU.

It's not, but it is limiting my GPU with the amount of lanes at the moment.
That, and the mobo is entry level, and I only have space for 1 M.2

8500g pretty weak, much better options out there.

I Have stock 9600x at R3500, 9700x R4500, even 7500F R2300 is steal for performance it gives.

Perfectly honestly, given what Zen 6 is bringing to the table, I wouldn't touch any current CPU. Not because today's chips aren't great, but because we'll most likely see Zen 6 launch in late Q1.

From what's been reported so far, we're looking at between 8 and 12 cores, with up to 48 MB of cache. If that holds true, it just isn't worth buying into the current generation, in my opinion.

I think Zen 6 is going to wipe the floor with Zen 5. It should also keep most people happy long enough to comfortably skip the first generation of AM6 and wait for the platform to mature.


It seems he already has the 8500 setup. Just looking at a CPU and board upgrade. Yeah 8500 is slower, no doubt but it isn't going to be non functional next week with games., it is perfectly serviceable till then. Get the board upgrade and wait a bit seriously.

It is utterly daft going with older CPU gen with zen 6 on the horizon.
 
6700XT is a bit long in the tooth now. Getting driver timeouts almost daily. Yes, it's AMD's crap software, but never, ever had this much crap with nVidia. All I use it for is World of Warcraft at the moment, but there's a conflict happening somewhere because I've also got browser tabs open, some running a YouTube video, etc, so I've got something on in the background while I'm farming. Thought it could be hardware acceleration, so turned it off, but still persists.

Have my eye on a 5070ti which would last me for another 5 years like the 6700XT did but, man, those prices...

Nvidia isn't exactly great on drivers lately. I've not had any timeouts on my 9070, though it does at times tell me the driver has crashed and reset stuff which is odd.
Oddly enough the b580 seems more stable
