New Windows-powered tablet-notebook hybrids now in SA

Bought a 10" Nextbook, brilliant little hybrid, really comes into it's own when needing to do office work on the go.

Just dont use the C drive space all up (I bought a 64gb SD,just testing local drive's capacity/performance) or else you wont be able to login. Device boots up,you enter your password, screen goes black, and nothing further happens. Had to reset the device thus deleting all files and programs.
 
I'm currently sitting outside in the sun, typing this from my nextbook with my new MS wedge keyboard. Really having fun with the portability of it. Wish the screen was a little brighter though.

8" version? How do you deal with such a small screen? I checked it out in store and it was too small for me. Like reading a phonebook.

I'm not having any issues reading the text onscreen, so far.

Yup, works well. Played Shadow of Mordor, Darksiders 2, Hearthstone etc. Obviously being over wireless you need to set the quality for the streaming to fast and or the resolution low. Like 720p or so.
I also installed FTL and FEZ on it and it works like a sharm.
One interesting thing to note. I plugged in my Xbox360 wireless dongle and switched on my Xbox360 controller and it works flawlessly.
This since I got 2 of these 10.1" devices I've sold both iPads. The money of which paid for these two.
The wife loves it as she doesn't have to deal with the frustration that is IOS.

I'm also running Bluestacks on it so all Android aps tested so far works.
I've only got like 1Gig space left though so I need to get a 64gig sd card asap.

I dont klnow why the screen complaints are so hectic but maybe I need my eyes checked but It's not that bad at all. Yeah it's not a 10" AMOLED but what do you expect by paying so little.

My ONLY annoyance is the WiFi being a bit slow if it's far from the router. When you power it while using perfect. Or is it that i'm signed in to MS Live and all these apps etc is updating etc. I'll make another account and see.
If it's a little further it gets slower. I'm not 100% sure it's the Nextbook's fault though as my Android phone seems to be doing the same the last 2 days.Anyway, for the price this little device is awesome. Looked at the Asus Transformer but it's quite a bit more expensive and I wouldn't say you gain that much.

Windows 8.1 on a tablet makes a LOT of sense. Beats the pants of iOS in my book (For my needs / usage) and I'll be getting an Windows phone the second Intel puts an Atom in the Lumia or equivalent.



I'm very happy with it. You wont notice the 1gig ram limitation - windows 8.1 handles it really well.

Anyone test that yet? The only SD card I have currently is my Android phone's one, but that is full of apps and photo's. If it does work I can sacrifice it though. And also I see something about a SSD drive. Can it be upgraded somehow? I also take it that this is not the standard 2.5" SSD drive, but some smaller type one.

A decent tablet version of a uninstall tool would be nice. A tool that deletes everything of said app. Also when looking at clean master for android, that would be awesome for this tablet as well.

The RAM is most probably a chip soldered onto the main board itself. If you are really good in those parts of replacing chips on boards and you find a compatible 4GB chip and can solder it back on I suppose you could achieve this. The SSD on some tabs only require you to remove the screen, but from what I saw on the net earlier today on some of the more expensive tab's, they had to remove the whole MB as the SSD was on the back. But yeah at least the SSD can be replaced if you one can find a SSD locally maybe and two replace it yourself or pay someone to do it. just make a backup of the current SSD and restore it onto the new one, otherwise you will have a black screen on bootup.

Yeah so I convinced myself to get an 8" one :D Very happy with it. Perfect size and so far does everything I want it to and more. Not sure why all the hate - you obviously get what you pay for and not everything will please everyone. I've already used this little [cheap] device more than I've ever used my 10.1 Android tablet - and I've had that for years. Why? Because Windows. Simple really...

I've thrown in a 64GB micro sd card and using this guide (there's more on the net), I've got myself a 'permanent' 64GB D:\ drive to use to install applications - Dropbox, some basic code editors, maybe even try SSMS etc :D

So... all in all, EXACTLY WHAT I NEED OUT OF A TABLET and I've already convinced two other Windows 'super' users to get one and guess what, they seem very happy too. Must be a Windows thing :wtf:

Did you have to do anything special to get Bluestacks running.
AFAIK it needs quite a bit of RAM.
