News server related queries

i got a simple but probably stupid question. im on a telkom account with 1gig international and 10gigs local. Im running route sentry at the moment with telkom for local and axxess prepaid for international, at the moment my telkom international is capped. My question is--- at the start of next month is it possible to only use my telkom account? will my news server downloads be subtracted off my telkom 10gig local?

Cap your account at the end of a month. Just before midnight create a connection (this will be a local connection). Then as soon as midnight passes start your downloads. All usage on this local connection will count to the current month's local usage, even though it's using a previous month's local connection. Fiekus is spot on - I did this at the end of September beginning of October and worked

Hard to say. I downloaded HIMYM and was averaging between 300-400kb/s.

Oh lol my bad. Yeah Newshost itself is dead slow. Apparently they are having SQL problems or something like that.

Is Newshost accepting sign ups again? I heard they were completely closed. Anyway, I've only got NZBSA, Is Newshost a lot better? NZBSA has been awesome for me so far!

NewsHost is closed to new signups. Next year some time they may open up again for one day to allow new signups (for thier birthday)

I have decided to hold off on the ADSL swap for now I am staying with my Wireless ISP.
Is there anyone that can advise them that (as me being the only user using grabit) will not crash their network. I only do like 3gb a month.

I suggest you switch to adsl and set up your own network for your siblings. If you really don't want to, use the news server provided by your isp's reseller (probably SAIX or IS). If they complain about that, you could probably talk directly to the reseller and have them (the reseller) inform your current ISP that they (the ISP) are full of s**t then go back to your premium service. You could try using an encrypted connection to the news server. Also, I find it worrying that your ISP knows what program you're using- any one else agree or am I being paranoid?

EDIT: Could you please explain how they know you use Grabit. Did you tell them or did they already know?

News.saix is fine on my side - getting decent speeds too.

this is weird - restart router - doesn't help. restart ipcop, doesnt help, restart altbinz, doesnt help.
restart PC.....heeey it connects!!!

Very odd as http/smtp worked fine.

Oh well - at least I can leave it running now and catch up

I had to be honest with them and I showed them I only use Grabit and I use Astraweb/Giganews. But sadly they have now blocked p2p and they claim grabit and me getting stuff via NZB, are all p2p and as soon as I use it, it crashes their network.

I used to use utorrent but have not been doing so for more than a year now. I find that the grabit/nzb has been far better.

I would really appreciate if any of you can advise them of how to work around this headache. I am at this stage so sad because I cannot get my favorite two shows: DH and B&S.

Ok, you need to speak to someone moderately intelligent in the call center because it sounds like you've been dealing with a clown. Ask them how it crashes their network because that sounds a little far-fetched. Perhaps you should contact their reseller and read through their t&c's and aup to arm yourself beforehand.

You talking about WebAfrica (news.wa.co.za)? Their server has a limit to the number of connections it can handle. They say they'll increase capacity on monday or so.
I found this using Bing (I'm on local right now). It should have all the commands but I've found RFCs hard to read in the past...
