News server related queries

The SAIX server is shaped every day of the week from 8 am to 6 pm. You will notice it by little spikes in connectivity. Impossible to download anything during those hours.

That I know but usually on public hollidays one gets max download speed
 
Has anyone experienced low speeds today on IS around 12pm my speeds dropped down from 320kb/s to 20kb/s?

Hey,

If I switch my router off and on I get full speeds, then after a hour or so the speeds reduce, then if i reset router again I get full speeds? What is the problem and how could I fix this?

I'm getting weird (speed)spikes on IS news server. I've only got a 384k line but I'm intermittently getting 70-300K down. Anyone else getting this?

That normally happens on the SAIX server when it is being shaped during weekdays. Strange. Can you get us a screenshot?
 
That's the start of a download, it usually starts off indicating a high speed and drops down to normal (which is the actual speed). You also get 'spikes' when a file is being decoded. This doesn't mean that you actually achieve those speeds, it's only an indicated speed and usually false. This also happens with http downloads.
 
I don't have another machine to try this on. I also know that this happens from time to time like Highflyer mentioned. What I find odd though is the fact that it starts high, drops to 75k, spikes up to 300, back down to 40k(normal) and then goes back to 500 and stays there for a while. I've even disconnected/reconnected : same thing. Weird, but I'm not gonna moan. I'll just reach my cap sooner!

my most logical guess would be other users trying to connect to the IS server.

Get a bandwidth monitor or a bandwidth desktop widget to monitor your throughput in real time. You'll see that even though your news reader indicates that speed, your bandwidth monitor shows that it never goes very much above 40KB/s.

You are lucky to be getting 40k on IS. I have a 384k line and used to linger between 6k and 9k on a good day! Gave up this month and moved to SAIX!
 
Downloading with newsservers

Anyone else getting "breaked up" speeds?

Like one moment you get 200KB/s then 0KB/s then 200KB/s again etc.

lol... it's called shaping... and it is what SAIX does to the news server during business hours. ;)
