What is the difference between cached and uncached - is that local and international?

Could i use local only account for cache downloads?

Man! Help the guy!
It's a Broadband type related query!

A cached file is a file that is stored on the server in question, uncached means it not.
They are both local, cached is just faster to retreive.

SAIX's uncached stuff come faster (100kb ±)
IS's uncached stuff come horribly slow (anything up to 10kb ±)

@Biggie: Yeah that's what I meant :p

Just hope the HW & SW forum doesn't end up like the General ADSL/ISP forum with a "Huawp me pweeze I don't understand how de news servers whoook" type thread popping up every other hour of the day :D

Ya, but still, say "wrong forum or whatever" AND THEN HELP.

I'd like to think of myADSL as a very helpful community, those type of 'posts' don't help, but instead waste a persons time.

I've said it before I will say it again www.newshost.za.net/forum - STOP POSTING HERE!!!

J

And I'll say what I've said before, specifically to you; IF YOU HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAY, DONT SAY IT.
I think you just post your useless posts to add to your post count!

People have problems with WebAfrica or OpenWeb and post here... why don't I ever see you posting "Why Don't you use their forums?!?!"

You keep up your stupid posts and I promise you; you're going to be the FIRST person I add to my ignore list on myADSL, your posts are so useless, it's like reading something from Telkom/Eskom. :D

jsheed_sa has a point though, Newshost has a proper forum for this. You could even use the chat function to ask around.

But hey, lets all be nice and destroy the newsservers even more! :D

I did and got no response whereas generally here i get a fast response to questions i may have and if you have a problem with it tough titties!!!

As to wrong section my apologies - where should it have been in?

So just because you have no patience to wait a bit for a reply you post it here? And then once you have things figured out you'll start bitching about poor speeds right? They have a chat feature too which you could use if you don't want to wait.

And no gdiza, it ain't broadband related. Usenet has been around far longer than broadband. I have no sympathy for rude people who don't make an attempt to use the proper channels, or at the very least use the damn search function.

@ Highflyer_GP i am sure at one time in the far distant past you too knew nothing about something and asked questions that intolerant fools who thought they knew everything scoffed at your stupidity. I apologized already for posting in the wrong section - and as i asked this question on their forum a while back and got no response i tried here. As for a chat room i obviously missed that link on their site for i am sure that if i had seen it i damn sure would have used it instead asking for help from a schmuck like you!

I tend to think it is; simply because;

1. It might be considered Usenet BUT
2. How do we get access to it; we use our ADSL line which thus makes it broadband, even in the sense that we can 'talk' about it.

Having said that;

We discuss everything here on myADSL from ADSL to Eskom to Love to whatever; any topic (placed in the correct category) goes on myADSL - even NEWS SERVERS, EVEN TORRENTS - whatever. ;)

No I make an effort to search, read and learn on my own. As a last resort, I might PM someone who appears more knowledgeable than myself after a thorough search. And btw, it's schmucks like me who help schmucks like you if you had asked in the right place, you unappreciative tool. Your lack of patience is no excuse to draw unnecessary attention to the thing and fsck it up for everyone else.

And the repercussions are evident. The poor speeds are a direct result of these discussions.

I like how you say even torrents, which is ironic, because the speed one achieves on torrents depends on large numbers of people, yet torrent discussions are almost taboo here.

On the other hand, large numbers of people on a usenet server clogs the thing up and the result is 3kB/s for everyone who did make an effort to learn on their own, yet people go around posting thread upon thread about it as if it's as routine as taking a dump.

So yes in short, when it comes to this specific issue, I'm a prick.

No, everybody has access to usenet. Dialup, ISDN, 3G/HSDPA, iBurst etc.

HAHA @ "I'm a prick"

Lots of uses helps cache things faster on news servers... I dunno how you can say it slows things down?!?

There was never a need for caching before people flocked in their thousands. Everything went full speed, irrespective of time of day, and irrespective of cached or uncached.

And more people doesn't mean more caching, it means shorter retention periods on existing cached items.

That's right. Originally, everything went at full speed. Now almost nothing gets cached..

As for the OP, if he'd bothered to read the FAQ on Newshost, he'd have had his answers. Thats why I ignored the post in the forums there..

When in doubt, RTFM!!
