News24

Leads to ignorance ;)

I tend to disagree. I mean News24 hasn't always been around. Does that mean people were more ignarant prior to it's existence than they are currently? They do seem to have brought a new level of exposure to violence though. Doesn't do anything for me knowing about every bit of violent act that happens in the world. All i'm saying is that they need to balance out what they report on with those feel good stories that we wanna hear.......And they do exist.

I actually avoid News24 lately because i believe it physically does something to you when all you hear is such horrible sstories. I find IOL a little more balanced in their stories. BTW, who owns News24? I know they're part of Media24, but who are the individuals behind the News24 website? anyone care to elaborate? It might explain a few things, you'll never know.

I think a lot of their content is syndicated ... get it from other news agencies like Sapa and AFP. So the doom and gloom is not all their original content they just pick out the headlines that people tend to read. You get to know your audience so in a way you could also blame the reading population because if crime didn't sell they wouldn't put it up.

Not a criticism of readership though because I also tend to gravitate towards those stories just so that I can find out if anything bad is happening in my area and if there is anything I can do to make myself safer. Bit of a Catch 22.

Once you know (as we all do by now) that "criminal insanity" is the prevalent culture in South Africa and have organised your life accordingly, it can only depress and traumatise you to be bombarded 24/7 (no pun intended) with horror stories.

You understimate the innate barbarism of these savages at your own peril, so I believe their demonic deeds should be reported on vigorously to expose them for what they are. How you choose to expose yourself to the reporting is entirely up to you.

Ok, now it's clear to me that news24 is obssesed with anything that has to do with people dying. It also seems the more gruesome the death, the more likely they'll have it on their front page.:(

They even have "4 lions on the loose..." because somebody is likely to die.
