Nice improvement

Keep on hoping...

Hi Gav

Don't know which area you are in, but CTN was quite bad yesterday as well; today my connections average 723.40kbps, (during office hours) and with little packet loss.

So seems you in for a good surprise tonight.

Regards

Michael

Mze, sorry to burst your bubble:

ping 196.30.31.120 did the following:
packets sent = 100, packets received = 100, lost = 0 (0% loss)
Minimum = 39ms, Maximum = 51 ms, Average = 45ms
Even if the downstream connection speed is 1024 kbps, I still download 3.00MB in 14 seconds which is an average of about 220KB/s if I'm not mistaken?

So I'd rather use a proper, wireless internet than be under Telkom's monopoly... And iBurst is continually putting up new towers (or at least so it seems), so things can only keep getting better.

So, yeah very nice improvement, iBurst!

Wow, those are some amazing pings WKJ... Are you sure you aren't on ADSL?

220KB also isn't really possible on iBurst.. but your connection must be amazing.

Did you really do this test at 5pm when you posted?

Speed calculations

WKJ, Great pings!
I never saw anything like that on iBurst.
Where are you located and what base station are you connecting to?
How far are you from the base station and what is the load on it?

3MB in 14 seconds = 0.214 MB/Sec, not ±220MB/Sec (1.71Mb/Sec) Still very good.

ADSL
9.76MB in 23 seconds = 0.424 MB/Sec (3.39Mb/Sec) A bit below the 4Mb/Sec at which I connect.

Ekhaatvensters:
Yes, I'm sure I'm not on ADSL. I don't know if 220KB/s is possible or not, all I know is that is what I got when I tested my speed with a 3MB file? I think I'm supposed to be capped at around 120KB/s, because the downstream can only be 1,024kbps, dunno what's going on there? And yes, I did the test a few minutes before posting. Is jy Afrikaans?

Mze:
I'm in Krugersdorp running @ the Kenmare base station. I'm about 3km from it. Don't know about the load? I'm not sure about your post about 220MB/s? I posted 220KB/s, not MB/s (though it would be nice if I could download 220MB/s...) Of course, the 4Mb ADSL will download faster than 1Mb iBurst, but all I wanted to show you is that the difference isn't as pronounced as most would have us believe (and I think you'll agree with me on that one?)

Interesting point made by WKJ....about speed. Feedback from our customers say speed is essential, some say speed is not a priority requirement, but quality is, others say capping is a problem and should be removed, professional users want shaping to dissappear, other don't mind....I guess what I am trying to say is that alot of individuals have individual and specific requirements, and that's the challenge we as iBurst have....to be all things to all people. I don't think its possible to be!

Great to hear that WKJ?:beanie is getting good speeds!

Personally I have never had any issues with iBurst, apart from it being down a few days ago because of the power outages.

But I agree with you, it will be very difficult to shape iBurst to everyone's needs, but because I am a very casual browser iBurst is perfect, and the fact that I seem to be getting above-normal speeds and quality of service only serves to make me happier.

I will never be happy with ADSL again!

Well done, Ed.

It's good to finally see a positive thread about iBurst on these forums. In the 6 months I've been here, it's only been complaints in the morning and evening. So instead of saying well done to Ed, I'm saying well done to the forum for saying something positive about iBurst for a change! :p

Ed here is a solution for all users:

A stable 2mbps without cap and unshaped then all your customers will be happy:D

Do the above and you'll have more customers than iBurst could ever hope to have.:p

Yes, for some strange reason the ping has improved no end! Ping of around 40/50 in Counter-Strike Source (yeah I know, I don't like it either but hey), so once again, great job!

Thank you Iburst for giving me such good speeds this month,i thought i was dreaming when my CSS ping went to 31ms, i was spaaming all those adsl noobs witht here 40ms.

Haha, don't know why they never thought of it sooner.

But how about that 2mb.. and unshaping shouldn't be too hard, it can't have such a huge effect. People only have 1-9 Gigs to use anyway, and they pay a lot for that. Once capped of course shaping/killing off P2P is okay.

Sounds like a good idea for the future.. throw in some JHB international pings for Cape Town and we're good.

Big stick needed

Mr H, what price?

If all this would be done at an affordable price, Ed would not have a stick big enough to beat off all the people clamouring to join iBurst.

Ed, get the bean counters working to see what must be done to balance base station load vs bandwidth to give consistent performance day and night. Keep this at a constant 2mbps download and you would have beaten the ogre.

What you mean "affordable price", I expect it for what we are paying now and even then it's still more expensive than overseas countries.

It's about time companies in sa settle for a reasonable profit instead of raping their customers.

Ok forget the 2mbps as I'd settle for the 1mbps IF it was stable at 1mbps, but they really need to remove that cap limit like it used to be +2yrs ago.

Then they would get more customers and could make just as much profit without trying to screw their customers to support their mercs.

DISCLAIMER: THE FOLLOWING POST IS IN AFRIKAANS AND DIRECTED AT EKHAATVENSTERS.
