Nintendo Switch Game Recommendations?

A couple of weeks ago my son found this on Takealot, I was out so I bought it on the app and paid the postage. Never had time to look for other things to make up the free postage so grabbed it thinking it was a mistake.

When I got home I was going to post it here but it was out of stock already so thought nothing more of it, fully expecting a refund anyway. Shippiing time was like 17 days or something.

Then this morning, it shipped for delivery tomorrow. Total R106 including postage and the R5 begging thing

You are suppose to post about specials as they happen:laugh:

Seems like they're using AMD's FSR to upres some new Switch games. It was in Switch Sports and it's now in Splatoon 3. From what I can see in the video previews of S3 it's making a huge difference. Graphics are clean and crisp and the effects like water and goop and reflections are all bumped way up over S2. It's pretty exciting to think new Switch games can use this tech. I really hope it's in BOTW2.
Cannot compare with previous Splatoon games, as I have not played those, but the IQ of this game is tremendous for what the Switch hardware is. Also it ran pretty smooth while playing the Splatfest. Seems like the game, as usual from Nintendo, got a lot of love from the devs. Hope it also becomes an evergreen title.

Seems like the specs for the 2nd generation Switch are becoming more solid and lining up with rumours going back as far as June 2021.

the Tegra T239 is a modified form of the Tegra T234 Orin. Orin is an automotive-focused chipset so the T239 will add gaming features like RTX (believe it or not) and DLSS.

The ballpark estimates put the raw compute around 2.5 TFLOPS, which is faster than PS4 and the Steam Deck. Since Steam Deck can run desktop PC games like Spiderman comfortably, it's promising for the Switch 2. Plus, seeing that it has native DLSS support integrated, it puts 4k upscaling on the table.

I expect they'll stick with a 720p screen; in fact they may not even upgrade from the current exceptional OLED panel.

Would be a great time to release along with the new Zelda game next year....

If they do that I'll buy the new Switch to play it. I also wonder about the new Pikmin 4 screenshots. The IQ seems far too high for current Switch hardware. For instance the watch is displaying impressive reflections. Of course it could just be a render, but it's being reported as screenshots so who knows? Fun to speculate.

They really have to release a new switch

1080p medium @ 30fps is unacceptable in 2022 (when docked)

Lots of games don't even hit close to 1080p when docked, including Pikmin 3 Deluxe. The few that do hit 1080p/60fps are a real treat, like Portal Collection.

Honestly though I am still skeptical about those performance numbers because they seem too good to be true. A handheld with 2.5tf of GPU compute would be a monster. Switch docked has around 500 GFlops, so we're talking roughly 5x more powerful.

The price concerns me though. The OLED already goes for R8500. Unless they drop that price a new console will be in Xbox / PS5 regions in pricing

Japan witnessed an incredible history making record being made last week: Splatoon 3 sold close to 3 million copies and close to 200 000 Switches in one week. That makes Splatoon 3 the highest selling opening game: on all platforms for as long as console sales were tracked. On an "aging" platform. That has not been price dropped in over 5 years. That's bigger than Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Animal Crossing...

Furokawa (Nintendo president) stated that Switch was only halfway through its lifecycle a year or so ago... So, as things stand now, they really do not need to release a new Switch... but I think they will release a new model (well, duh)... hopefully in 2025 (yeah, I'm one of those gamers).

I'm hoping for 1080p@60fps as minimum docked. 720p@60fps when mobile. And fokkit, not falling for rumours again! 8-Cores, Super Saiyan Ultra! Instinct! power levels, etc... All just gobbledegook.
I am more concerned about the direction Nintendo will be going in with the Switch platform... I am still a great fan of owning what I buy (cartridges for lyfe!), but Nintendo is not known for making sensible decisions.

For me personally, I'm good with paying upwards of $400 for it if the hardware is there. I really wish they'd open it up a bit more this time though to modding. But they won't of course.

Btw here's an older DF video going into the rumours (they even identify that Ampere Orin will be the chipset used in Switch 2):

Makes me think that Nintendo had planned to bring it out sooner but had to delay because of the chip shortage. I have a hunch that the Switch OLED redesign was meant to be part of the entire Switch 2 package, then they bifurcated it.

This is the problem. Because it's in the console category it somehow has to compete with a box like the PS4 or X in people's minds. It's not even in the same category, it's portable. Neither the PS5 or X can compete on that front.

Imagine trying to cool a PS5 in a handheld format lol

If it's the same form factor but as powerful as the rumoured specs, it will be much more compelling than a standalone console. The Switch now is only really held back by its specs.
I already have 5 different versions of Bayonetta 1. I don't need more.

Xbox 360, PC, Wii U, Switch(digital) and PS4
Somehow I read it as Bayonetta 3 my bad

Agree. Ninty need to concentrate on porting the good stuff and making more exclusives.
I wish Pandora's Tower gets a remaster and The Last Story. I play through them regularly using the Wii U's backwards compatibility. I would love remasters.

Personally I can't wait for Bayonetta 3. End of October still feels like an eternity away

Those specs are for your OCD. Playability is where it's at and BOTW proves that the Switch plays with the best of them while remaining portable IMO.

Yeah, ok.. I'd be really happy if they upgraded the specs to something more next-gen. I've always been into the hardware side of things. Switch is really let down by the fact that games can't be ported without major sacrifices. It's the only thing keeping it from greatness IMO.

Personally I think devs just get lazier as time goes on. It's like selling people a shiny Land Cruiser because SA's roads are full of potholes.
Fix the road and you can enjoy almost any car on it. Most people are happy with an ordinary car anyway and more people drive because you don't need a Cruiser.
Of course if your roads are crap, Cruiser owners will tell you how awesome a cruiser is.

If you take something like Doom Eternal or Witcher 3, there's really no way to make it work on the Switch without serious compromises. Switch is only a bit more powerful than the Wii U. You have to be realistic about that.

I think games developed natively for Switch are mostly fine, especially 1st parties. And ports of older games can also be amazing like Portal Collection. Indies also do great but even then I found the Ori & the Will of the Wisps port a bit too low resolution to enjoy.

Personally I love the Switch. I've owned every major revision and it's my only console. That plus a decent gaming PC is plenty for me. But I can just imagine something more on-par with current gen consoles where new games could actually be ported over without cutting out and downscaling it to a point where it's unplayable.

I don't really care about 4k gaming. But downscaling and 30fps and potato graphics settings make me want to puke.

I agree. Switch for me is about the exclusives, the portability is irrelevant for my use case

Oh I absolutely love the portability. Even if it's just a matter of playing in bed while the TV is on. It's the killer feature for me. Switch will always be a fraction of the power of other consoles and that's fine. I just really want native resolution/1080p, 60fps, with decent graphics settings.
