Network Outage to International Sites
We are experiencing connectivity issues to international sites due to SAIX performing maintenance on the SAT-3 cabling.

Currently awaiting an update from SAIX.

Problem Description : Link - SAT-3 normalisation in progress. 5 minutes breaks to traffic or slow response to traffic until 17:00on 02/02/2010
Impact : No Connectivity
Time Down : 2010-02-02 06:32
Time Up : 2010-02-02 00:00
Sites : NNOC
Cause : Degraded cable
ETTR : > 24 Hours
Progress : The SAT-3 cable is degraded due a suspected power problem between Abidjan and Lagos. Telkom SA is busy localising the cause of the failure.

Hi All,

Please note that we are aware of the International Access being down--
all we can see right now is that the SAT3 cable is down and engineers
are attending to it,

It is just plain sad to see everytime this cable is touched the entire country almost goes down. You'd think Seacom would've been alot more help than this.....even at work things are grinding to a halt.

We won't ever need a Chinese-Firewall or Internet Sensorship , just touch the SAT-3 cable and bam, we're cut off.

The odd part, is I can't get international over SEACOM either! But my Cell Phone can browse, guess that is going over Satellite. Anyone getting bandwidth over SEACOM?

Afrihost and OpenWeb is also reselling IS bandwidth, and they both have no international at the moment.

Well Screamer was going fine this morning 8am when i left, but it was down during the night, whether that is SAT-3,Screamer or Seacom i don't know...regardless i wouldn't exactly say they are "unaffected".
