Hi all,

I've installed No-IP DUC v2.2.1 so that I can connect to my home PC from work (when needed)

I've setup an account with No-IP and it's all seeming to work.

I log remotely into my work PC and try to remote into my home PC (expecting to be kicked etc) but it fails to work.

In Windows 7, I thought it might be the firewall, but I even turned it off, it's still not connecting.

I set in 7 to allow all RDC's.

Any idea why it's not working?

I've never set something like this up before so It's a bit of a learning curve.

Maybe a NAT issue? Are you behind a router? Or is your PC connected directly?

Does Neotel issue you/your modem/router with a public IP address? If not, then it is definitely a NAT issue.

I've asked Neotel in the passed to make sure all ports etc are unblocked, and that was confirmed with Hugo (Neotel rep) a while back.

The Neotel 'router' is connected via USB to the PC.

The "DNS" from No-IP picks up the right IP address, so if you ping it remotely, it doesn't work, but if you ping it (from this PC) it works (obviously)

Are you on Neoflex, or Neoconnect? Since you are connected via USB, I am assuming that your PC is dialling a PPoE connection, or some sort of connection. That then means that your Windows Firewall comes into play.

If you are trying to connect via Remote Desktop, then you need to unblock port 3389 incoming, on your firewall. You computer also won't just respond to pings from the internet on its own. It needs to be enabled. I think you need to unblock the ICMP protocol (incoming on port 7??) to enable pinging.

But most importantly, do you have a public IP address? Could you post the first 2 numbers of your IP address... e.g. 196.44.xx.xx

My IP address is starts in the 41.174.xxx.xxx range.

OK that's a public IP address, so its not a NAT issue on Neotel's side. Could still be a NAT issue on your side if you are going through a router, but I doubt it. You said the modem is connected directly via USB.

The only thing I can think of Windows Firewall that's blocking it. Double check that it is disabled (this is generally a bad idea though). Maybe try re-enabling it and setting up a rule to allow incoming connections on port 3389.

Do you have any other firewall set up, besides Windows Firewall? Maybe something that came with your virus scanner?

If the above doesn't work.. then I'm out of ideas...

no-ip.com DNS servers are hosted internationally. Find out if you can ping their DNS servers. Maybe the DNS has propogated yet, if you set it up like just an hour ago..

I'm afraid I can't help you anymore.. I'm not a networking guru, and I'm fresh out of ideas. I thought that at least a few other techno geeks on myBB would respond and give far better advice...
