No LAN in Starcraft 2!!!

Blizzard senior VP Rob Pardo has confirmed that the company's upcoming RTS sequel StarCraft II will not feature LAN multiplayer support. The only multiplayer available will be on Battle.net.

IncGamers also got a clarification from Blizzard, shortly after the interview, saying the choice of excluding a LAN feature "is because of the planned technology to be incorporated into Battle.net," a topic they will reveal more about at a later date.

The original StarCraft gained popularity largely because of the easy LAN mode, used on massive LANs like Dreamhack or small personal networks between friends, so this is a surprising move by Blizzard.

LAN is overrated since these big LAN parties of the 2000's are a forgotten memory. Only big LAN I'm aware of still is RAGE. Appart from that friends get together and play FPS's or online games in groups.

Sad but that is reality :o

Just because you don't go to them, doesn't mean they are dead. www.langames.co.za

Also, me and and my friends all gather at someones house every now and again to play some LAN games - (much more social than being online). Now, with all the games starting to remove LAN play, we can only do this at someone who has a broadband connection. I'm the only one of my friends who has an ADSL line.

This is a **** move from Blizzard. First Diablo 3 (there goes my Diablo 3 launch party!) and now SCII.

No, I agree with you.

I'm still to see one FPS that has removed LAN play form their features ;)
Strategy games are so out of LAN games it aint even funny :o Myself and a group of mates hook up now and again to play LAN games at someone's house. There is way more fun in having FPS games than to be having Strategy games.

Strategy games takes ages to complete a round. FPS's are quick and rotation happens quickly. When someone mentions a Strategy game to be played next that is ussualy when the guys start going for smoke breaks, going out to get food and so forth.

I have seen it. You do get the die hard Stragegy game players, but they are but a drop in the ocean when it comes to LAN games. I think the biggest hit ever at any LAN is Black Hawk Down.

I still have a copy of it and it's always a favourite, no matter how old it is :p

So what.... i'm still going to get the game and play on line.
LAN's are such a mission... I'd rather LAN in the comfort of my own home and not have to worry about having enough people to play with.

Internet FTW.

Yes because internet is so cheap and is available for everyone...right? Oh wait......WRONG!
 
Now I don't know how true this is, but I read somewhere a couple of months ago that you are going to need a 4MB line to play StarCraft 2 online. Google it, I'm sure the article is still online somewhere.

Even more fail.
