No Man's Sky

Very brave to do anything other than fly in that expedition ship

I'm not even sure what freighter I have in main save as started a new save in the last few months. You get that one free freighter but I try wait for an S class one because after that I think we pay for them. Maybe the pirate dreadnought would be free but think maybe not. I think you also have to disable it so you can board and then get it.
Needed to make money :-) so took jobs and one of them is the usual pirate take out, which also lead me to the derelict freighter. Yup I didn't know about the wait till a better freighter comes along, so I hopped on to the B Class one. Though it's all nicely laid out now spent more time building out the freighter vs other things.

Other than for the street cred, I haven't really seen so much benefit from higher class freighters. I essentially use mine as a base and a place to send out frigate missions. So probably good just to get the free one that meets your requirements. Can always buy another one later on and it's easy to make money in this game. I recently got into trading commodities between systems and the trick with using trading posts for better profits and make millions very easily that way.

trading commodities hmmm? I might look into that, I really can't remember what I was doing, but I do remember setting up bases to try farm stuff. Did try building bases, deleted those and just fiddled around, I think I spent a lot of time trying to find ships to sell :-)

It's trading those items that are usually listed first when you buy at space stations and trading posts. I previously ignored them because I didn't get how they worked. Trading posts on the planets have better prices for buying and selling. Buy at -50% and sell those items in the next system at +50%. As soon as I have a few 100k I get going with that but you do need the economy scanner in your ship, to determine which systems are 3 star and what colour they are for trading and it also detects the trading posts.

Then the goods I've just collected will determine which colour 3 star system I go to next. If you go space station to space station it will also work but you make less profit. I sometimes do that if I'm jumping systems looking for upgrades/ships/multi-tools. Might as well use the cargo space and make a bit of profit on the trips.

Ah there are trade routes now :-) will use that thanks

Argh I was using the shuttle not the Hauler, but the shuttle does have more guns and hyper drive, plus a lot of storage.
Spent most of last night building a base not even doing phase 2 :). But now I've got a floating base to land my ship.

Am sure the shuttle is fine for this expedition. I also wasted time last night and was busy with a derelict freighter, that seemed to have way more creatures to kill than normal, when my game crashed and it doesn't save progress in a freighter. So I lost the small amount of tainted metal I had collected! Am now going to try get the 4 anomalous fish and then do another derelict freighter.

The fun of this game (for me at least) is the endless distractions and always having to get back on track

I'm finding the ancient bones :)

Get extra!! Sell for money and then trade to make more. The beacon for the derelict freighter costs (I think) 5 mil.
I've found 2 without even needing a beacon, also found a floating shattered head anomaly:)

I saw the derelict freighter mission but can't find the system it was in so now just going the beacon route. Those random anomalies are cool!!

Yeah i had to Google if there was anything i could do with it. The first derelict was near the first planet and the next one was after fighting some pirates

Might take a quick detour back to the first system to see if I can track down that freighter, thanks! Just got the fish from phase 3 and the deep water task from phase 4. Also seems there might be an exotic planet nearby for the exotic creatures task in Phase 4.

Oh also follow other peoples, save points and message hubs

@Lupus how goes your expedition? I finished last night and got the Boundary Herald ship, think it's an explorer type. Hoping they re-release this year's expeditions soon as I want to try finish the Omega expedition so I can get the Starborn Runner ship as I didn't finish the expedition the first time round.

If you're getting back into it then you may have a chance to re-do all the expeditions from this year. They usually give us about a week for each one.

I've sadly not played since Friday :( will probably play more tomorrow night. Well done on finishing the expedition

Okay got a new multi tool, does 6000 damage, nailed the Inky blue sky task and the ancient bones one last night.
Plus picked up a ship from a "mission" called voices from the deep. Plus some guy built a small base next to mine :(

That new multi-tool should be useful! Not sure if you can easily switch multi-tools but I can set shortcut codes on PC so I have a pistol for scanning and a rifle as a weapon because I think it's damage stats are better.

Nice that you found a ship! I lucked out with finding a sentinel ship and sold it for around 30 million units which meant I was sorted for money.

I think one of the hardest tasks for me was the arachnophobia one in phase 4, the 8 corrupted quadrupeds was a challenge. Friend helped but we both needed 8 kills and it wasn't counting some of the sentinel kills even though they seemed to be quadrupeds. They also go invisible at times!

You're clearly a trendsetter when it comes to base locations, must have chosen a nice spot

Not super easy have to go into the menu to switch multi tools, will look for a rifle, currently using a pistol as both :-).
Ship is a class B so not super great, but on finding it they did give me blueprints for some underwater base stuff, I mined gold for quite a bit in the beginning to get units, so had around 7 million for awhile, I'll attempt that one tonight for killing quadrupeds.
The base is on a floating island, with a small waterfall going into a stream which than becomes a waterfall onto another floating island just below it. I thought you couldn't build bases close to others, guess not.
