No new Google Maps app for Apple

Well that clears that up.

Google Inc. has not submitted a new Google Maps application to Apple Inc after the iPhone maker dropped the use of it in launching its newest device, the head of the world’s top search engine provider said on Tuesday.

So, no new app was submitted because Apple dropped the use of Google maps? :whistling:

Google has no new map app for iOS

Eric Schmidt, Google’s Executive Chairman, has said that the company has not yet offered a new map app to Apple

Not quite "no new google maps for apple" though, what he actually said:

We have not done anything yet,” Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt told a small group of reporters during a visit to Tokyo.

We’ve been talking with (Apple) for a long time. We talk to them every day,” he added.

Important parts highlighted, I take that to mean there will be a Google Maps, it's just not yet finalised.

Kinda makes sense. If Google did not withdraw the previous version, why would they submit a new version.
It all Apples doing.

Maybe I'm a bit naive but why should Google submit a new app for Apple's benefit?? Apple has clearly lived up to Job's wish of going thermonuclear on Android and its manufacturers.

Then again, I'm sure Google would benefit somehow if they created a new map app for iOS.

It's a good question. The YouTube app (which Google immediately released after Apple dropped the IOS5 one) can now display ads, so Google benefits.

Maps? I don't know if they can display ads in it?

Interesting to see how may of the 5million Iphone 5 users actually use their Phone GPS on a regular basis and how they are coping with the IOS Maps

Erm you forgetting its all iOS 6 users not just those with the iPhone 5's.
Nobody will really complain though because the last thing an i-Sheep wants to do is stand out from the herd

Well, apparently Apple Maps is better than Google Maps in certain areas. Just depends where you come from

I don't know why, but I find that mildly amusing, perhaps it is a bug infested plastic Granny Smith on a boardroom table that Google talks to feeding it false Android news.

^ This... Heard a radio report today that in addition to the 5M new iPhones there have been 100M IOS6 downloads already.

That reminds me of another fun fact.

Downloads mean nothing as you have loads of people (me included) that downloaded iOS 6 but not installed it. Its sitting there in my iTunes waiting for me to press update. I am sure you can guess why its not on my phone yet.

Ooh, that's a tough one. :D A jailbreak is the reason for me 'tho... ;)
One thing I'm pretty sure of is that Apple will be getting TONS of user info right now and I'm guessing that will translate into substantial updates for the map app in 6.1, 6.2 and so on. It's going to be one steep curve.
