This laptop is driving me insane. Whenever I lock it (using ctrl+alt+del) and then log back in, the sound is gone  This seems to only affect the headphones. If I want to watch or listen to something, it will play normally through the speakers but not the headphones after I've logged back in after locking my laptop  I've tried everything and nothing seems to work. To make things worse, I don't have admin rights to play around with any services (services.msc). Please help

Perhaps the pc puts the card to sleep? Uncheck that option in device manager, you may need admin rights for that though!

jip easier. check sleep seting of sound card. Update drivers aswell

It's an acer travelmate isn't it? I had that issue with one ages back where you'd remove the ID card and when you slide it back to unlock, sound just dies. I tried every driver known to man - eventually Acer advised me to update the mobo firmware as a last resort and it sorted the issue.

DISCLAIMER: This was in 2004 running winXP. I would've hoped they'd sort the issue by then!
