Nobody lies like CellC

It does!! Even if your phone is in your jeans pocket while you having a shower, that can potentially damage your phone.

Thats true, but chances of that little paper getting wet all the time is unlikely.
Water damage is not only determined by the little paper, the electronic components actually short circuit and sometimes the electronic thingys explode(tiny explosion looks like a battery when it leaks).

Most repair centres will give you a pic of the damage if you ask nicely.

LOL
Skeptik and I are both sceptical of your claims, if you are a certified technician then I would give you the benefit of the doubt but for now your posts are cracking me up mate. :D

Firstly Cell C is blaming the manufacturer repair centre and the manufacturer repair centre is blaming Cell C. We have been the repair centre and they just blame Cell C. This comes down to the customer perception, I bought the phone from Cell C, I pay Cell C every month for the phone and contract; therefore, Cell C ultimately must take responsibility for the whole situation.

If I buy milk from Spar and it turns out to be sour I am not going to go to the dairy somewhere in the Natal Midlands and make a complaint to get the milk replaced. No, I'm going to my local Spar. You are the end retailer, you resell the product and for your efforts you must deal with customers and their problems!

Firstly let me just say I am not Cell C, however i know from experience that the repair centre are the only people that look at your phone.

Why is the repair centre blaming Cell C, did Cell C use the phone and break it, if so then yes Cell C are to blame.

I know from experience that cell phone repairs are handed to to the repair centre, they repair them and return them for collection by the customer. ie the reseller is just the middle man. Nokia made the handset and Nokia repair the handset not Cell C or the network.

As I stated before call the manufacturer and report the problem and ask them to sort it out. Basically escalate the problem.

As for your analogy of the Milk let me give you one as well, I buy a Chocolate get home and find its got worms in it, I don't drive back to the shop I pick up the phone and complain to the number on the back of the chocolate that says Consumer Complaints, they sort the problem out and send me a replacement.

Please understand this from the other perspective as well, the Cell C store that you returned it too are not qualified technicians of the phones, therefore if the authorised repair centre says the phone is water damaged, the store has no choice but to accept that as word why because the authorised technician has said so. If you have a problem ask the store to investigate and give them the amunition to fight the battle, or escalate it to the manufacturer.

Believe me I understand your problem, and feal for you I am not trying to fob this off, or excuse Cell C or the repair centre of any wrong doing.

I wish I was the end retailer here, then I would gladely fight the battle on your behalf as I would have all the information and amunition to do so.

I do understand that if you were the reseller you would not be a qualified technician. And I'm glad that you understand the argument that as the end retailer you are essentially the person that sold the phone and therefore responsible for dealing with the customer; as such you should assist them with regard to this matter. What I do ask of CellC, as the end retailer, is not to continually tell me that I need to go see the retailer directly - rather assist me in doing so, don't send me off to deal with someone I've never talked to in my life before!

Microsoft has a policy with regard to Xbox replacement in this country - namely that should your Xbox die on you you will contact JNC directly with the details. They will then approve the end retailer to replace your Xbox in person. This is essentially the type of relationship that is necessary for happy customers: I don't have to go to the repair centre directly, rather the little details are handled by the end retailer and the centre and I merely deal with someone that I know and have a retailer/customer relationship with. Unfortunately this isn't always the case.

So, thanks, I appreciate your sentiment, and wish that could be the case. Unfortunately not all stores, it would seem, have equal levels of customer service :/

Please PM me your contact details, I would like to take a look into this and see what I can achieve, can't promise anything but its worth a try.

Apparently I have sweaty palms which caused the phone to fail.

I cannot believe that they tried to sell you this bull. The guys honestly think that there customers are stupid cash cows that need to be milked for every cent that they have. They don't see the long term results of their poor service...

Umm no. I take it back and get double my money back from the store that I bought it at. Then they beat up the supplier for me...

The point was the store he went too was not assisting him, therefore he should escalate it by speaking to the store owner, the manufacturer, Cell C head office, regional office and the repair centre's manager, yes its a number of calls or emails to make, but at the end of the day the choice is accept it, which I wouldn't do or suggest or you can fight your case.

It's a little hard to claim compensation from the store when the store are just following the procedure the manufacturer has set out, hence why I keep saying escalate it.

I had a problem with an N70 I got from cell c. They sent it back saying it was either water damage or it had been dropped. Talk about covering your bases. :D I had to threaten to kill everyone at their call centre and repair centre and their families to get a replacement (or something like that :p).

I'm told its common practice for all networks. I think its because they offer a warrenty for the duration of the contract while the manufacturer only covers it for a year, so it could cost them a fortune to replace or repair every phone.

I had a SE W800 once, and it always gave me problems ... but initially, the problems were small such as the camera switch was too sensitive, and automatically activated the camera which killed my battery. Each time I took it to get repaired, it got worse ... to the point that every few hours the phone would freeze. Then I took it the the vodacare in sandton and they sent it in ... eventually it came back and they told me the warranty was void, because there were certain stuff was missing on the Mainboard and they told me that I either did it, or took it to an unauthorised technician ... no something I'm not shy about is that I will never go down without a full argument (I'm very stubborn) ... and so I began to argue, and the more I argued the angrier I got ... I stated that the only people that ever opened my phone was vodacom ... but I was beginning to get really irritated and angry, and was loud (not shouting), after a few customers left the shop :P ... a few phone calls were made ... they took the phone back, 3 days later I got a phonecall that my phone was ready, I went in ... and low and behold ... a brand new phone :P

My uncle had the same problem with cellc.
his phone went crazy and kept restarting after 2 days,
They told him it was water damage!
his phone was out of the box crazy and he didnt know it.
I hate companies who take advantage of the tech-dumb people!

The only time I would not hold a retail agency accountable for the product they sell is if they do not put ANY markup on the product after purchasing it from the manufacturers.

If they can add a 20% markup , they must be liable for any returns.

During my studies I worked as a tv/vcr/whatnot repair techie... we've had countless customers come in and tell us that their appliance had a 'minor' fault when they brought it in and that we broke it.

Hence its important to have them state the problem and demonstrate it before you work on it. Taking photos of your phone before repairs also helps. That way you can contest scratches/missing panels etc. ( Preferably with the current day's newspaper next to it :) )
