NOKIA 5800 Irritations!!

Why bother with Opera Mini when you have one of the most capabile browser already on the phone ?

I hate the "back" on the most-capable-browser. It has that stupid preview, and then reloads the whole page. I want it to keep it in cache like Opera does. Push Back, bam, previous page. Don't want to reload it!

I can't use the qwerty keys with my butter fingers. :( Still have to update the version, but so far I am very happy with it. Ordered it yesterday at about 3pm from Nashua and got it this morning at 9:30am. :p

Edit:
And no charging from the USB cable. :(

When playing movies on my phone, the screen is blank for a few seconds, but you can hear the sound of the movie playing.

Can't get the Cell C internet and mms settings.

Messages read still shows an unread envelope.

Can't get music that was bluetoothed to me from my inbox to mem card.

Starting to hate this phone.

I don't experience that problem with movies. Try doing a hard reset of your phone or restore factory settings and update your firmware if you haven't already.

Files received by bluetooth can be saved. Select options then select save. It gets saved to your music library or gallery and is stored in the attachments folder on your memory card:)

Highly recommended.

I have upgraded my firmware... :(

I don't have the save option. I know you guys won't believe me, so I will try to take a pic. :D

I have also tried the hard reset, but not the phone factory settings...

After a whole day's of googling I have found this.

Hard reset:
Press and hold GREEN + RED + CAMERA when powering up.

Keep the keys pressed until you get the shaking hands. That should fully reset the device, with a lock code of 12345.

This is only available on phones with 20.0.012 or later.

This deletes everything from your messages, so I no longer have the problem of not being able to save the song I received via bluetooth. :o

When playing a movie file and you are finished, stop it with the "menu", cause if you play it again later, you have the "no video" but sound only for a few seconds problem.

I'm looking at getting this phone - just two things, can anyone help.

1 - does the phone have a jack similar to the Ipods i.e. so using headphones wont be a problem. Also my car accepts this for playing MP3s etc.

2 - Can I use this phone as a 3g/hsdpa modem as per a e220 modem?

thanks!

Yes this phone has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. It can also expose its memory card like a flash drive so if your car audio system accepts flash drives then you can use the phones memory card. Like all Nokia phones this phone can be used as a modem.

Hi Guys..
I've been through a few Nokia 5800 threads on here.. and it seems MTN users have no probs upgrading the firmware.. whilst Vodacom users can't update firmware so easily?

I'm going to take out a new contract at the end of the month... and I'm leaning towards Vodacom.. so can any VODACOM Nokia 5800 owners confirm they have upgraded the firmware with no probs?

Cheers :P

17 Seconds, I would like to know that myself, about to pick up the 5800 for my s.o

Well, I got my 5800 from MTN on Saturday and it has the new firmware pre-loaded. I didn't have to update anything, and even checked to make sure.

Again you wont be able to upgrade unless you debrand and your warranty will be void.
Get MTN

I got my fone from vodacom abt a month back, and I gave it into the vodacare shop to upgrade to V20. When I went to pick the phone up, they gave me back a new phone with V10 still on. I then used the NSU and it upgraded to V20. So im not sure if the new phone they gave me had a different product code which allowed me to uprade my phone. But I suggest taking it to a Vodacare, so ur warranty will not get void if you thinking of changing the product code urself.

i received mine yesterday from vodacom and it has the branded v20 firmware on it.

Be VERY cautious of the phone saying it was updated successfully to the version specified... All of my Vodacom phones that I have upgraded all "upgraded successfully" BUT about a month later, I start having major problems with the handset and one of my handsets went into Vodacare for repairs TWICE because of this. The second time I was given an MTN handset... With the latest software :D

Everyone keeps saying your warranty will be void, has anyone ever experienced this? When I was on Vodacom I used to always update my Nokia phones this way and just changed the product code back when I was done. When I needed to take the phone in for repairs all they did was scan the IMEI on the inside of the phone and then check if it's still under warranty and then it's all good. I even remember having a Motorola E398 that I tried loading custom firmware on and ended up bricking it and it was fixed by them no questions asked.

It voids the warranty. Its just that they sometimes dont check whether you've fiddled with the firmware thats all.

No they don't. All Vodacom does is the 2nd year warranty check which checks :
1) is this a VSP phone
2) is this in the 2nd year
3) if in the 2nd year has a billable call been made in the last 90 days

If that checkc out fine they will fix the phone. I bricked my old 6320i once and just took it to VodaCare and said "Uhm, it is not working any more". An hour later I had it back and it had a new firmware on it.

This firmware check / warranty void myht is just that - a myth.
