NOKIA 5800 Irritations!!

No they don't. All Vodacom does is the 2nd year warranty check which checks :
1) is this a VSP phone
2) is this in the 2nd year
3) if in the 2nd year has a billable call been made in the last 90 days

If that checkc out fine they will fix the phone. I bricked my old 6320i once and just took it to VodaCare and said "Uhm, it is not working any more". An hour later I had it back and it had a new firmware on it.

This firmware check / warranty void myht is just that - a myth.
Alright jailbreak your iPhone then take it back to vodacom and hear what they say. Thats changing the firmware correct?

OK - I will rephrase myself - if you have any phone but the iPhone (that needs to be cracked/hacked/jailed/derailed before it is usefull) then the firmware check warrenty void issue does not apply to you.

Me, I don't use fruits to perform the job of a phone.

lol So firmware modification IS a problem. Its just not enforced on other handsets because it's less common and usually cause less problems than on the iphone.

What if they start inforcing the policy properly for all their handsets? Id rather go with the un(vodafone)branded option thank you which I have so yeah i'm so clever...:D

Thesedays I buy most of my handsets from CellC cause they are cheaper than Vodacom. So I won't even pass the VSP provided handset check.

If I run into problems I take it to Nokia, they have a store in Canal Walk and Somerset road.

Yes the last thing I care about is firmware. Id rather have a functional phone with my fixed and proper firmware for 350 days a year, than be irate about issues for "in case" I need warranty. In Most cases the "Water damage" yank is thrown at you, and in even more cases, fixes are R200 or 300.
I don't think Ive ever had a device which did not have some form of upgraded or custom fiormware on it.

"they have a store in Canal Walk and Somerset road" , which nokia store are you referring to , both Somerset rd and Canal Walk closed a few years ago

Everyone keeps saying your warranty will be void, has anyone ever experienced this? When I was on Vodacom I used to always update my Nokia phones this way and just changed the product code back when I was done. When I needed to take the phone in for repairs all they did was scan the IMEI on the inside of the phone and then check if it's still under warranty and then it's all good. I even remember having a Motorola E398 that I tried loading custom firmware on and ended up bricking it and it was fixed by them no questions asked.

Ahhh Motorola E398, best phone ever... ;) Ordered the Nokia 5800 should be getting it this week, on MTN.. BTW

When I ported from Cell C, the main reason I went with MTN is because Vodacom screws the phones over with "their" software...

I was told 5th of May... Well, that dream came and was gone pretty quickly. Now waiting another delivery of handsets on Friday. Hopefully it will arrive and I can get my upgrade.

Okay got the phone, but I dont have an extra stylus or plastic stand... How do you go about this? Just leave it be or take some action ;)

Are you serious. Whilst looking for a new phone last month, CellC shops were just ludicrously overpriced by, in some cases, as much as R1500 to R2000 more than the most expensive Vodacom shop!

When I got my phone I noticed the same "problem", so I asked MTN about it and they told me only the first few phones came with the extra stylus and plastic stand. So probably only the people that got their phones at the beginning of the year got them :(

I call BS on MTN. I'm awaiting a 5800 from my local MTN, they could not tell me when it would be here. I phoned around and spoke to a person at MTN Somerset Mall. Queried why I'm waiting so long, she said that the stock was sent back to Norway because it did not include the "extra" accessories. They should get new stock at the end of May. Still waiting patiently.

Not true. I got my phone not too long ago and it included the extra's.

I lost my Stylus today, and seeing as i was one of the unlucky ones who didn't receive the back-up, i need a new one. Anyone know where i can get a hold of one?
