Tahir, I went to my nearest Vodashop and thy did have 2 64k sims in stock (Retailing at R105 ea). However when they attempted to do a Quicksim swapout the system didn't want to allow it.

Does that mean if I want to swapout my 32k for a 64k I need to pay the full retail?

Have you done quicksim swapouts on the 64k cards before?

If you are using a prepaid number you might be affected. Some prepaid numbers on the Vodacom network wil not take a 64K sim card. But go back to that VODASHOP and ask them to SIM RECEIPT the 64k card on the computer. After they receipt sim card,it should work but it will not work if you are the affected prepaid customer.Ask the sales person to call the TRADE PARTNER SUPPORT DESK if the system FAILS.If your number was prepaid and converted it to a contract. You will still be affected

What is the 1st 5 digits of your cell no including the code.I can check if you are affected.

IF YOU HAVE QUICKSIM.YOU DONT PAY FOR A SIM SWAP.

woah this topic has sure grown a lot.

can't wait for the end of the month or for next month so i can get the branded ones (hopefully free) damn vodaworld needs to share the love and bring it down to cape town as well.

by the way anyone got a picture of what the branded vodafone 6680's look like, how badly they look.

Cause i heard some of them are pretty bad.

:(

I couldn't wait for an upgrade, and bought the 6680 outright R5000 later. (I used my midyear bonus - now i have no more cash -- *stupid adict*)

I'm busy signing up for a 3g package for this phone, has anyone else used it in South Africa as a 3G modem for your laptop? I see the Modem installed indicates GPRS - I don't want to bother with GPRS I had that on my old phone - it's just too slow.

So is anyone else in the same boat? Will I have problems getting this phone working as a 3G modem for my Laptop?

Got mine last week, and set it up within a day to connect via 3G, without any problems ... if in doubt, download the modem drivers from the nokia site, let the phone do its thing (I think setting wizard or something), and you should be good to go

tracking usage

Question to those using the 6680, how do you keep track of your usage?
Do you connect using the One Touch Access thing that the phone sets up, or go via some other route?
Thanks

Video streaming on Nokia 6680

I apologise if these question have been answered in a previous post.

I have 2 questions:

- According to Vodacom3G, Vodacom will load the Vodafone!Life software on a non-Vodafone!Life Nokia 6680. When I ask Vodacom customer care about it, they didn't know anything about it. (This is the walk in centre at Vodaworld, as well as 082155). Can I have VodaFone!Live installed on my Nokia 6680 and where?

- I can actually access VodaFone!Live by going to life.vodafone.com. The only problems I experience are that when I try to access some features I get the message that I have dropped out of 3G coverage, even when I have a strong 3G signal. And when I try to do video streaming (e.g. Carte Blanche on vodafone!live) I get the error message "Default APN not set". Does anybody have the APN settings and will this resolve the problem?

Thank you for any assistance!

Sounds like the default APN must be set in the RealOne player. Go to imaging->RealPlayer->Options->Settings->Connection->Network->Default Access Point.

The “Warning – you have temporarily dropped out of 3 g …….” is a known problem on non-VLife handsets and is being addressed. Must say, it's a weird error message.....

If you go to Connect->Log->Packet Data, you'll see all data sent and received. You'll have to reset the counter every month, but this should give you an accurate count of data used. Add the two number together for total data usage.

i must add that the vodacom guys in tygervalley & canal walk no jack about phones or contracts and the award for swearing and flirting while forgetting to put you on hold has to go to vodacom canal walk. no wonder they dont bring the free ib weekender 6680 special to cpt.

Phone modem 6680

I use a nokia 6600 as a phone modem via my laptop when travelling. Appalingly slow. The WAP is like watching the paint dry and page loading times appaling. Some newby 3g questions.

1) Can I browse from my laptop useing the 6680 and Blutooth?
2) If so will I get an ADSL connection into my normal service provider?
3) If yes will I get 3g browsing speeds or old WAP?
4) If I browse from the phone, no laptop, will I get HTML web access by useing browsers such as Opera for S60.
5) If so, at3g speeds or wap speeds?
6) How does the cost workout. WAP currently costs about R2 a MB ( as opposed to the previous cellphone cartel rate of R45 per MB) But the 3g is capped at 1 GB at a fixed cost. Or are data transfers under WAP included in the 1 GB cap?
7) Im told wirelessIRC does not work on the 6680, it worked fine on my 6600 tho.

All above assuming im in a 3g area.

7) Or should I just wait for a MS 3g PDA?

Off course I ask the above as my 6600 has gone walkabout. Phoned Vodacom and they refused to say if has been activated with a new sim card. I am sure they could. IMEI now terminated but will feel like fool if I find it again. Vodasures loss

Thanx

Just think phone is modem.
Once connected all will work on your laptop as if you were connected to a normal(fixed line) modem, but vodacom/mweb will be your isp.
Your speed will be determined by the basestation you are connected too. On a 3G basestation you will get up to approx 340kbps ie much faster than a normal modem, on a gprs basestation you should get approximately the same speed as a normal modem.
As far as cost from 60c to 200c per mb depending on your "package". Gprs and 3g cost the same per mb.

i hope the branded 6680's really come out in september otherwise i'm going to be really pissed cause i need to record some audio on there @ a gig

well one can always hope i'll come to cape town [even the unbrannded ones free that is]

The Nokia 6680 Vodafone Live phones should be available from the 9 September. And Yes price on the phone is coming down because its branded.I dont think it will be Free on a Weekender package in September BUT we have to wait and SEE.If you cant WAIT than go to VODAWORLD.6680 is Free on Weekender until the 6th September or while stocks lasts.
