I finally convinced them to phone their head office, which they do, and surprise surprise They tell me there are 32 in stock that just arrived, and have put my order in and I can come and collect on Friday the 27th. Of course I am as happy as can be. Friday comes and I rush through to go get my phone. Well Nobody there can remember me and dont have a clue about what I'm talking about. The manager is not there but they promise me he will phone me. Somebody else phones me and explains to me that MTN is busy doing their stock take, but they will collect the phone that night and deliver it to me on Saterday. WOW...

BWHAHAHA yes it never happens. Monday I again go in, and suddenly the phone has been held back due to problems on the network. But I again get promised a call from the manager or somebody else when the phone is available.... Never Happens.

So today I decided to phone MTN head office and well they have no clue as where I heard what I did (thank goodness I have taken down names) and say they dont have or never had stock of the 6680. They suggest I report this to the Manager of the store, or to the regional manager.. and yes... you guessed right. I cant get hold of any of them. But have been promised they will phone me back.

SSSOOOOOOOO.... Can anyone suggest a decent package on Vodacom, and when they expect the phone to be released.

Delays I can handle.. being lied to I will not :mad:

On which contract are you currently at MTN?
 
Currently on the ProCall 120. Was considering moving over to the ProCall 220 as my average bill is around the R800.00 per month (and R7000.00 when ever I end up going overseas :( )
 
Thanks. What is Nashua's services like? that works out to about about R40p/m more expensive but if I have to pay R50 not to get lied to.. I'll go that route

Overall I am very happy with Vodacom service, I have only delt with Nashua Mobile for a short while now of about an year but I haven't had any problems with them.

Nashua Mobile and Vodashop are both good choices, but ask around the forum to get a broader opinion.
 
Headoffice of Autopage and the Vodashop in Vodaworld both agree that the Nokia 6680 will only be available in July and it will cost R1200 on a weekender contract.

Anybody that has heard good news?
 
MTNhandsets got hold of me yesterday via PM and also gave me a call today to explain what had happened with MTN and my bad luck.

Seems there is a very important firmware update that is being release in the next week or so for the 6680 and I'm guessing all the companys are holding back for this to be released first
 
no 3g on 6680

i went to a vodashop today and asked about the 6680 cause they releasing it this month. its free on talk 500 and talk 1000, so its gonna cost a buck or two if i want it on weekender. she also said that the vlive version is comin in the next 2 or 3 weeks, but guess what? no 3g for us. apparently it has some of the same problems as the 6630, and the 3g won't work. gonna have to use gprs. anyone no if vodacom support EDGE?

It still would be nice if you phoned to enquire about the Nokia 6680 that the person working at the cellphone shop would have an idea of what you are talking about and some more helpfully dates, such as the release date and info such a Kalvaer just gave us.

Which Vodashop dit you go to, do you have a telephone number for me?
 
The one at the pick 'n pay in norwood, she said that she got an e-mail from head office this morning telling her this. the number is 011 728 3900/ 3742. it sucks, i wanted the 6630 and they didn't bring it out, and now they messin this up now.

Thanks, now that is good news, I tried to phone now but the line is busy, I want to find out how much it will cost on a Weekender.

Just to show how messed up these cellphone shop can be, I just called the shop where you heard the phone was going to be released this month, the same shop just told me that they have no idea of when the phone is going to be available, another month or so...

i saw the list of new deals for the month when i was there, and the 6680 was on the official list for this month. free on talk 1000 and talk 500. (no Vlive) but i'll wait till the newspaper supplement comes out during the week and check then.
 
Sanity check :)

The 6680 was tested and approved, so the 'being held back for new firmware' is not true.

The phones are busy coming in and I confirmed (a few seconds ago) that they should be in the channel by mid-June.

I'll try and get some prelim pricing.

Thanks, it is just that I have been waiting 5months now to upgrade and I'm getting a little impatient now when people tell me that I could wait another 2months.

Thank you very much, this helps a lot, now I can go and get my R2009 so that I can go an buy the phone the minute it is available.

Hey only mentioned what I was told. I also said that MAYBE all the others are holding back.

Question though.

Will Vodacoms phones have the new firmware on release or will it require you to take it back in later?.

Also how true are the statements about No 3G?
