Nokia Rules!

I have been using my 6680 for exactly one week now.

I am very impressed! The phone has good battery life - that after using all the features during one day. The phone didn't even drop one bar on the battery power. Yummy!

Did I tell you that I am very impressed with the phone? mp3 player is awesome - exceptional clarity. The phone can mulit task better than Windows. I had music playing, while chatting on MSN (Agile Messenger), was composing a SMS and had the calendar open. Switching between applications was smooth and quick, with no performance degradation in any of the applications!

Did I tell you that the phone is very impressive? The speaker phone is loud - packs quite a punch, even while driving in a car in noisy traffic. PC syncrhonisation works like a charm and the software interface is even more intuitive than my previous phone (6600).

This is one impressive piece of electronic sophistication! Already tried two video calls, video streaming and audio streaming. Aaah! After action satisfaction!!

An impressive camera too, with good picture quality. Various features to add: Night mode, sequence mode, self timer, brightness, contrast, flash, white balance and colour tone!

Did I mention that this phone made a BIG impression on me? No surprise really, seeing that Nokia is the leader in mobile phones with currently over 30% share of the world market!

Hi,

Just wondering if these prices are still good... ;)

Family Topup - R2579
Business Topup - R1099 or maybe R1299, could not hear properly...
Messenger - R3889
Weekender - R2009
Business Talk 100 - R1209
Talk 500 / 1000 - Free
Cash Price - R5699

Are there any cheaper deals???

Thanks,
Greg

No better deal from Vodacom...its funny, Vodacom has rated this phone as a high end phone so its free on Talk 500 BUT

MTN is giving it free on Business Time at R185 per month including free 75 Minutes Video Calling & 300MB Data (with USIM - 128kb sim card)
AND
I have a MTN contract as well which is due for upgrade - Nashua Mobile Upgrade helpdesk reckons it should be free on My Call 100 by 1st August......

Beats me....dont understand the way they calculate rebates and subsidise phones.....someone gives it free on R775 contract and another on R185 and seems its going to be free on R129 contract..........

SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN

If you can post a link to the MTN offer it would be great. Have you read the fine print yet? With disparties that big, one cannot help imagine that there is a catch somewhere.

Link is: http://www.mtn.co.za/?pid=238025 and it was advertised in the Sunday Times on 16th June.
small print:

These prices are subject to change, at the discretion of the MTN Service Provider, from time to time. All the prices are VAT inclusive.

Prices are valid until July 31, 2005 while stocks last.

Itemised billing is mandatory at a cost of R17.20.

The included Data and Video Calling value must be utilised within 3 months of activation. ( this means that you only get that free 300mb once off and not every month - the way i understand it )

Free Video Calling and Data only with USIM.

Anyway, as i said Nashua reckons it will be free on the R129 my call100 contract by next month...........
I think the big disparties are not because of any catch.........i think we been caught.big SOUTH AFRICAN fish for all the TELECOMS companies to fry....
someone please explain: how do the kickbacks work?

Where can i get those deals?on Vodacoms site all i find is : free on Talk 500 only. Please send me a link or must i get it from Vodashop?
Also just a point : i got a Vodafone branded V800 from VodaShop and guess what? ITS SIM LOCKED on VODACOM only! tried to use my Mtn and cellc Cards and it doesnt allow me to even punch in the PIN code......Previously phones that were sim locked had a sticker on the box saying; NETWORK LOCKED or something like that...this V800 box didnt say anything of the sort! Why are Vodacom locking their phones whereas the last upgrade i took from MTN was not locked?

in case any one is wondering; i have 13 Contracts between the three networks..

My 6680 is hopefully on its way, but I still have a 16K SIM card (dont laugh now).

Do I need to upgrade, and if not what benefit will i get if i do ?

Thanks

Getting my non vodafone live 6680 on friday night. saw somewhere on this forum someone had settings for vodafon apn..any pointers ?

The V800 was an exclusive handset to Vodafone that could be the reason why its locked.think all Vodafone live handsets are locked because they can be heavily discounted by the networks

You probably won't have much luck with data services. I know I had to upgrade, but a while back, so I can't remember why.

I have a 32k card, and I'd suggest you get at least that!

Argggggg! Seems the Vodacom Pricing only came down by R100 on "normal" packages - Talk 120 & 240...

You still need to "deposit" another R1100 for the opportunity to own a 6680.

Seems that Vodacom is perhaps pushing the Vodafone Mobile Data Card more than the 3G capabilities of its phones (keeping pricing on high end phones high?) ... or am I missing the point?

Well, heres hoping for a reduction in August....

Ok... long time since I posted.

For those of you that had both the V800/Z800 and the 6680 How do they compare?

Also does the 6680 support MP3 ringtones or only polyphonic?

Do you still have an option of chooseing a non Vodafone branded 6680?

I thought it had more to do with the VLive firmware, i.e. not necessarily being compatible with other networks...?

Vlive branded phones are generally not sim locked. I have a Motorola E1000 VLive phone that I use on MTN from time to time.
Not too sure how the 6680 VLive is configured, but I will say this : If it turns out to be Sim Locked, DONT buy one! Rather get the current generic 6680...
