Landyman: I just used a branded 6680 vodafone live and an unbranded one and the branded on is better, what difference does a small little badge make on the phone.

It's more responsive and faster with some tasks and you get access to vodafone live portal for like R1/day, no tigertael, stuff isn't locked on this phone.

By the way, Tigertael, how's anachromy :P

No man, confusion reigns.
Not that I really care, as I have my unbranded one, it doesn't really matter.

/me eyes v3g and ponders when Vodata will work on a 64k SIM

Lolz, Good ol Anachromeboy... Heh, he's fine, still parking off in London :P

I haven't used a branded phone yet, but all of the phones I have seen, they've locked stuff. I personally customised my phone already, optimised it. [Don't ask]. With Symbian, you can atleast do whatever you want to the thing :]

I don't know how you can say it's more responsive, cause, erm... that'd mean that voda*** reengineered the software? I think not. It's got the same hardware, you just gotta tweak the softwares.

Nokia 6680 Firmware

Hi all,

What is the latest Firmware version for the 'non-branded' 6680?
Mine is:
V 2.04.15
04-03-05
RM-36

I am hoping that my bluetooth problems might be related to the software

Mine is exactly the same:

V 2.04.15
04-03-05
RM-36

What problems are you having, because my bluetooth is fine.

Problems:
Connected via Bluetooth to PC ... 3G dial-up only works on second or 3rd try, and after that the bluetooth headset isn't recognised
Sometimes when dialing 3G via PC or PDA, the phone reboots itself.
Can NEVER complete a System Backup via PC Sync (V6.6) ... always some magical 'worst error in the world'

Woah, I've never had these problems on my phone. Just try test this out. Turn off the phone, remove memory card, let the phone boot. Do some tests to see if it's okay after that. If not, well, think about all the extra software you've installed.

Seriously, my phone doesn't have this problem. Also, beware bluetooth dongle drivers, they seem a bit kooky at times. I'm using the Windows XP default bluetooth drivers, generic.

Well, I have no extra software, except for AgileMessenger.
My notebook (HP) has built in Bluetooth, but the one thing I still don't get, is Windows Bluetooth and Widcomm (I think) bluetooth ... you know, when you set up the connection via PC Suite ... whenever I try to use the Windows one (and thats been like that forever) it states that all components aren't installed, so it uses Widcomm?

Added: On the content copy to the phone, I also sometimes get a failure, looking in the logs it states that the Contacts database can't be copied

Sounds definitely like an 'on and off' issue. Connection fairlure or something. If you can, try and get a seperate bluetooth dongle. Also, do try that memory card thing... you might be quite surprised. I'm just trying to do some process of elimination here ;]

But obviously Windows is complaining, so there's something that's not quite right there. I have Widcomm drivers, and all I can say is, I won't install them again. :P

But where do these Widcomm drivers come from?

Well, I got mine from my bluetooth dongle. It came on a CD with the hardware. I used them till Sp1 came out, then I threw them out :P

Tried uninstall, and let XP pickup its on drivers, but it still comes back with 'Bluetooth by hp'

Well, HP drivers shouldn't be a problem. Maybe they're using a bluetooth module that's made by 'Widcomm'? I can't really say, I don't have the thing infront of me. Maybe your bluetooth in the laptop isn't capable of more than 1 bluetooth simultaneous connection? The old N-Gage could only handle 1 bluetooth connection at a time.

Yeah, did a bit of driver searching ... nx9110 has the Broadcom wireless/bluetooth unit, using Widcomm drivers ... maybe there is some problem when using the wireless unit for LAN and bluetooth at the same time ...

Well, if possible, try using another bluetooth USB dongle or something, maybe you've got one or you could use a friends, or something?

AFAIK Broadcom gobbled up Widcomm a while back - they are now the same company [AFAIK].
You know correctly ... :D
Currently searching ... mine dates back to 2003

But this brings us back to the PDA ... does the same thing

Okay, also... check the names of your Bluetooth devices. Reset them as well. Nokia's have a problem with illegally named bluetooth devices (I.E. using funky characters) which causes the phone to reboot.

Did you try that memory card thing? Any other tasks running ?

Would a space be considered a funny character, and what about '-'?

Haven't tried without the memory card yet ... I want to make sure first it is not the two other HP devices I am using
