Shot mate ... going to hard reboot in a while (just waiting to charge to 100% battery first :D )

AFAIK, for each field that a sim card does not support, it duplicates another entry and adds the extra info to that. Then when it copies it back from the sim, it intergrates it back into proper format. Argh, maybe do a backup if you can ?
Backup - one of my problems, as it doesn't want to backup properly ... normal conent copy works though

I just tried to do a backup over the USB cable, complains that it can't access the 'Contacts.cdb' file.

Software has problems, that's for sure :P

If you want to copy that file yourself, get a file manager like FEXPLORER, and copy it manually :D

The contact sync with the PC is a bit ***, because if there's duplicate fields, it will only use ONE of those fields on the PC, losing that info on the PC, while on the phone it's still there. I.E, you have two fields 'Mobile', it only copies one.

I sometimes get that via Bluetooth, but most of the time it is a Critical Error of some sorts. Well I copied everything that I can, just waiting to finish charging

I am experiencing the following problem with my 6680.

Although the phone will show full signal, it will suddenly be off the network. Dialling a number nothing happens, dialling my phone goes to voicemail.

It is doingthe same thing after:

1. Picking it up from Nokia yesterday after sending in for
repair
2. Buying a new 32K sim card

Phoning vodacom some of the staff tell me they have heard or have a similiar thing with their phone. Nokia just says bring it in for repair.

Anyone have a similiar problem ? Vodacom3g can u help ?

Cop, as I said in the PM, it's unfortunately a Nokia warranty issue, so you'll have to take it back to them.

What you can maybe try is to set the phone to GSM only and see what it does. It might indicate a selection problem. You can do this under Tools->Settings->Network Settings

Thanks Vodacom3g. Yes I can try that but then that means I have no 3G access or features, which negates the reason for getting the 6680

No, that's not the point.

It always helps to know the extend of the problem before you book it in so you know what to tell the repair center and to check if it's working when you get it back.

I've learned with most repair organisations, if you don't tell them EXACTLY what's wrong they try and spin you a fast one.

"Your phone won't make a call sir? Have you tried turning it on? Are you sure you had coverage? Did you stand on your left leg?", etc. Enough to make you want to commit murder...

I call it the Microsoft 'Engineer' effect as so many desktop support people do this nowadays...(With apologies to the ****-hot Microsoft gurus out there!)

In any case, the point is; try and get a repeatable situation so you can show it to the repair guy.

Fair point but you obviously have not booked a phone in for a while.

The person who recieves it has no technical knowledge, you ask to talk to a techie sorry you cant, you have to give it to them and they will send it on. Besides when i went to fetch it after it was in for repair, they said they couldnt fix it and had to send it to the main repair centre, so even if there was someone there to talk to I doubt they could have helped

i see smartcom has a website and online applications, they do the delivery as well, so we guys in cape town can get it free on weekender ???
I just dont hav time now do check all their conditions. Have any1 got their phone online from smartcom. pls reply fot the procedure

Just want to know, E1000's cannot charge while connected to the PC on 3G, can a Nokia 6680 be on charge while connected to the PC and on 3G?

You can charge the 6680 with the power cable while connected via 3G on your PC.

Unfortunately the USB cable only drains the phone faster, I kinda hoped it would trickle charge but no such luck.

Thanks, I am only getting my Nokia 6680 on wednesday so I will have look, just wondered if you can do both at the same time...

Thanks for your input Perdition

I just wanted to know, (dumb question) but should i get any special SIM or anything (besides the standard package of a phone, headphones etc) with the 6680?

According to 1082, a 64k SIM card is needed for video calling (but not for 3g).
