Nokia 6680

With all this talk/rumours about locked 6680's - did anyone get a network locked 6680 from Vodacom? Was it branded or unbranded?

I am getting one very soon and will be hyper upset if it's network locked. I am looking forward to comparing the networks' 3G performance.

The only branding is when you switch on the phone it says vodacom presents vodafone live 3g and has a 3g connection in the bottom right hand corner o the screen in small. as far as network locking goes, its not locked afaik. its pretty much like the normal older 6680's with some extra options and i think tigertael was too quick to judge these phones without checking them out as no features have been removed.

Got my 6680 today. Its Vlive branded, but not network locked.
Get 5 bars 3G signal in Stellenbosch. No MTN 3G yet, it seems. Telkom local speed test-> 364.7 kbps.
Its now finally bye-bye ISDN dialup :)

Time to resurrect this thread

One thing you could try, remove the sim card, remove the memory card. Let the phone boot up, key in the hard reset code and let it do its thing. You will lose everything on the phone memory, but that's just one more step you could try. I've done this hard format when I first got the phone, because I didn't want any 'custom' vodacom settings on my phone. But do remember, a HARD FORMAT will erase the C drive and copy all the files the the Read only Rom (Z), which will restore the phone to factory default.

soft reset to standard settings *#7780#

hard reset to format phone *#7370#
(same as the four key thinghy)

Don't forget to backup your contacts onto your sim if it's on phone memory :P

Just don't mess with it while it formats, I.E. Don't turn it off. Wait till it's ready.

In regards to access points, that data is usually stored on the sim card with most new phones. You will however lose any ones that you personally entered. As well as everything else that is stored on the phone.

The lock code will also go back to 12345

Tiger,

I did all of the above ... still a bloody f@#k up! Plus, now I lost my Crazy Frog ringtone (yes, my 10month old boy loves it) that I downloaded.

Does anyone know how to get it to play again? I see it is a .do file

Thanks

where do you download new firmware?

I got old firmware imo... since it is only dated June 20053

V 3.04.37
01-06-05
RM-36

I haven't been able to find firmware
mine is:
V2.04.15
04-03-05
RM-36

So I reckon you've got the latest

I must say that i am unimpressed with the 6680.
I wanted one until i played on one...
Too BIG

Stuffed Nokia 6680

Ok, so I realised that my 6680 is totally on the blink.

Bluetooth stack dodgy
Missed calls does not show the number in the logs, unless I reboot the phone
And quite a few other annoyances (sp?)

I know I am running on an old firmware (v.2.04.15), so first port of call is for Nokia to upgrade the firmware. I do have one problem though: Nokia's Content copier is so f#cked in the head, I cannot make a backup of the phone before taking it in to be flashed.

Any ideas? Oh, and v3g, the hosting site (yes, there is only one) for Oxygen's software results in a timeout, every time :(

Thanks

Have to agree that the Nokia 6680 is disgusting, you cannot even set it to stay connected to 3g/gprs cause it keeps rebooting itself during calls and other irritating things like that.

The plastic over the screen is terrible, it scratches far to easily. This is my 5th symbian phone and im incredibly dissapointed.

The "memory full" bug is also very annoying esp when you get in the car cannot connect to your car kit until you reboot the phone.

All & All I would not advise anybody to buy this phone!

I am not too unhappy with mine ... it would just seem that there are some bugs in the phone. Mine does reboot as well, but when trying to do a backup using Nokia's Content Copier.
I will opt for the new Firmware, to see if that won't make a difference.

My friend's 6680 gives a "system error" when trying to take pics from the back camera. Mine doesn't.

Display issue

I have noticed this problem on at least two phones. Dark objects seem to make the background appear lighter. If I have screen with underlined text the horizontal line on which the line appears is slightly lighter than the rest of the background. Sorry it's difficult to describe this. It isn't always noticeable. I have a particular screen shot where this is very noticeable.
Try viewing a pdf file at 10%. On my phone there are very noticeable lines on the grey areas to the left and right of the small image of the page.
I have also received missed calls without the phone ringing or vibrating (no I wasn’t using a silent profile).

I would stay away from the 6680... from all these posts i would say its more trouble than what its worth...

yep i was also planning on getting one, until i actually played on one and heard about all these bugs.I want a real smartfone like 9500
Another thing is that the speaker isnt that loud and its uuuuuuuuuggggggggglllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyy

mine hangs every few days on an incoming call. Only option is then to reboot.

I will admit that its a great phone, but the bugs etc are just too much for me to handle, I have had the 3650,Ngage,6260 & Ngage QD without these kind of problems.

Infact they are all still working perfectly except the 6260 which was stolen

Well, that one probably still works, but not in a single unit as you used to have it :p
