Thanks. Not much info there either. I did find that the palm pre has an induction charger called touchstone which has charge times comparable to cable. Nokia has larger charging pads for multiple devices and an nfc speaker/charger combo which looks awesome.

Of course apple will probably bring iCharger to the market this month, which will be the first wireless charger (in a rounded rectangle) ever invented.

It's made from the same polycarbonate material as the Lumia 800/900, which is a metal alloy and is unscratchable (in the sense that it has the same colour all the way through so any scratches don't take off the paint). Versus SGS3 which is basically plastic. It does have a larger bezel than the S3 but the same screen resolution. I don't think it'll make a difference.

This is where critical mass adoption is going to be crucial. It's a chicken and egg problem. Devs don't buy in wholeheartedly (i.e. first priority apps) unless the public is seen to be doing so. And the public doesn't buy if the apps aren't equal to competitive platforms.

Further, I actually think that it is really idiotic not develop apps for Win8 because developing apps for Win8 means developing apps for smartphones, tablets and PCs all in one shot. PCs alone are enough to make money for a developer with at least 100 million people going to buy a Win8 device in the next 12 months. After all, all (well almost all) computers (desktop and laptops) run Windows. Even Windows's worst ever failure OS (Vista) had more market share than OS X until last month.

Yes new pc's that come out will be sold with a Windows 8 license, but a substantial number of those would be downgraded to Windows 7. Still can't forsee 100 million devices in the first year though.

As it turns out, my 100million estimate is actually a gross under estimation. So, yes you are right I was wrong. A better estimate would be a low of 300million PCs and a high of 600million, and that is without windows smartphones.

It could, but i can say that after working through the first period of horror when i started using it, i have now settled and kinda enjoy the possibilities it brings. By the time windows 9 rolls around i think people will learn to like it.

In the meantime they need to keep shipping tons of sexy hardware(like the new lumia) to keep our juices flowing while they build out all the components needed to fully realise the dream.

It's going to be a very tough transition.

It's good that they are taking a risk outside of the "normal windows", but I'm not convinced it'll work. We'll have to wait and see.

It's rather convenient to blame developers across the world for not supporting an OS. But most app devs are working on extremely thin budgets and a new mobile OS is a big risk. Comparatively, iOS and Android are safe. This is squarely Microsoft's fault - they failed to respond to the changing mobile landscape in time, and the app revolution happened while they were scrambling to even get an OS out the door.

Why are you concatenating WP8 and Windows 8 apps? Not to mention that even any WP7 apps that WERE developed now must be rewritten. Nobody knows if people actually want apps on their desktops, rather than just straightforward programs. Apps are lightweight plugin things compared to a native desktop environment.

My understanding is that Windows 8 phone/tablet apps will not be compatible with Windows 8 PC software. Two different types of Windows 8. If so, it will not offer a developer anything more enticing than Android.
