Hi guys. I can upgrade on Wednesday and just can't decide which of the above two phones to take. Price difference would be R80 a month more on the Omnia.

N82:
- Great Camera
- Xenon Flash
- Keypad (not a great one, but still)

Omnia:
- Huge screen
- Touch screen
- Garmin GPS for life

I'm so confused. I've never typed on a touch screen and don't know if it will make life more difficult - especially when sending sms's or so. Also screen resolution on the Omnia is not as good. What do you think?

Go to Vodaworld if you can, and get the feel for the two. If you can't go somewhere, try to find some place where you can do that.

The resolution was fine on the Omnia, but don't know how it compares to the N82. As for typing, on the Omnia you can bring up a virtual keyboard if you want, for typing messages and so on. The touchscreen on the Omnia was quite responsive.

I'd recommend the N82. It can also have Garmin XT for life ;) And it is not a WM phone, which is a bonus.

I had the same dilemma, I checked out a few reviews on youtube which is pointing me towards the omnia.

Omnia....i got it last week and its an awesome phone.

Well we getting all these Omnia calls so I am going to throw mine in behind the N82.

I currently have the N95 and I am due to do an upgrade to the N82. I love the N95 but am due for an upgrade and would love the xenon flash. I have glanced at the Omnia but nothing has really jumped out at me. Yes, it has a touch screen but that is all that is appealing and I am not sure it is a plus in the long term. I've heard of frustrations with touch screens mentioned in the iPhone threads.

Now the N95 does absolutely everything I want and need it to, so the N82 can only be better bearing in mind it has more memory and the flash! I have checked online comparison and apparently responsiveness, camera start up times etc are far superior to the N95. So my thinking is if I loved/love the N95 I can only be happier with the N82.

There are a number of calls for the Omnia above but I am concerned that no substance is added to these arguments. So it may either be Samsung fan boys or it may be based on appearance. I for one am not too concerned with appearance as the novelty wears off and the phone spends most of it's time in my pocket or bag anyway. Usefulness is the decider for me....

I also like the N82, but some people who have reviewed the handset, actually say that the keys are annoying... That is, they are thin and spaced far apart.

Overall though, GSMArena recons that it could turn out to be Nokia's most successful handset yet...

Yeah I have read talk of the keys being an issue. I have also read other reviews that the keypad is not bad... and the reviewer even goes on to mention that they have fat fingers! :)

It is vastly different though having raised, spaced buttons compared to a touch screen. I still have not been sold on touch screens....

OMNIA without a doubt... lost faith in Nokia with their bad warranties and 20th century designs.

OMNIA looks ahead of its time :)
And it even beats the iPhone in just about every category except resolution.. which is barely noticeable

Hmm well you settled my query earlier... all the calls for Omnia are based purely on appearance. So OP it seems a functional, useful phone (which I feel still does not look bad - it's biggest sin seems to be that it looks like a phone! :) ) or a shiny fashion statement. I know which way I lean....

I agree with your touch-screen stance...

Nokias' have a good history (heck, they created GSM...), I just don't trust Samsung anymore...

The N82 has alot going for it. Proud history, excellent feature set and accompanying software is very good.

The N95 has a big challenge in the N82...

:)

Hey, OMNIA guys give us something more to go on here rather that just throwing your vote behind it. I'm sure the OP was not looking for a majority vote but rather reasons for choosing either phone.

What makes the Omnia so great? Or more specifically better than the N82? I'm interested too.

I'm sure there is an alternative to those mediocre phones? *thinks*

Hmmmmmmm I dunno what it could be?

Hey I don't care about the specs. It's the fact that it has an i in front.
