Nokia N82 or Samsung Omnia

Just a quick q...

Is the N82 screen smaller than N95's?

If so, how well would the GPS work on the N82?

The more I read on the N82, the more I like it..

N82 2.4" versus N95 2.6" so yes it is smaller but I have read that it is still plenty readable. Apparently because of the candy bar form factor Nokia made a call that narrower would be more suitable.

It's only like 0.2 inches smaller lol, so it's still pretty large. GPS works perfectly. A small sacrifice for not carrying around a brick with a sliding mechanism that's prone to failure

I have to admit that the smaller screen is the only thing about the N82 that I thought was not ideal... but then I have read things that because it is the same resolution on a smaller screen it looks "crisper".

The only complaint I have is that there is a slit opening around the top side edge, where dust can collect. Even with a fairly thick silicon skin, I still find the keypad useable. Without the skin, the keypad is totally amazing, no probs there.

The GPS in my opinion is the best GPS you can find in a phone today. I'm sure it'll beat the Omnia GPS hands down whatever you throw at it.

If you learn how to use the camera, you can take photos more beautifully and quickly than you would ever imagine.

Oh and watch out for dead pixels, they occur a lot in N82, as with the 6600.

Many N95 users have expressed their preference of the N82 over the N95, even though the N95 has a bigger screen.

But the N82 is definitely the most sensible buy.

N82 has auto focus....

N82 has geotagging...

That smile recognition just sounds bizarre to me and more like a gimmick. Correct me if I am wrong but it does not take the photo until it recognises a smile? That is just silly. It is a digital "camera" if the person was not smiling take another snap. I don't want the camera deciding when to take the photo if it does not "see" a smile.

but back to my original point...there isn't a phone with BETTER specs.

so, with smiler specs + the omnia definitely looks better + touch screen ...i would chose the omnia.

Sorry dude but the Omnia's flash sucks balls in comparison. And I honestly don't see touch screen as a plus, I'd hate finger marks all over my phone. Good luck using it just after you've gotten your hands dirty.

It is impossible to change someone's mind but just to set the record straight. The specs may look similar but if we dig deeper the i900 has nothing on the N82.

EDIT : Oops, further bad news for you bar1... I just read this on the N82 review! It has so many features it seems ones like this just slip under the radar!

The 5-megapixel camera is a winner. Equalling the N95's peeper is no mean feat, and with a Carl Zeiss lens and proper flash, snaps are crisp and sharp. With face detection, it's ideal for group shots of everyone barrelling around in dank, smelly nightclubs

Final conclusion
Our review may look like a salestalk rather than a review and it could make you think that Mobile Phone Helpdesk posesses some Nokia shares. Of course, that is not true, and besides the fact that we write our review from the target groups'point of view, we cannot conclude otherwise than that the Nokia N82 is totally finished. We dare to say aloud and guarantuee that everyone who thinks about purchasing the Nokia N82 makes a very good choice. The Nokia N82 has conquered our demanding heart and we cannot do anything else than giving the Nokia N82 a big 9 as final mark.

And for balance, the Omnia

Conclusion
After we spent a couple of weeks with the Samsung Omnia we believe that the device truly has the right to be described as a device that can do it all. Remarkable is the endurance of the battery. With a device that offers so many functions we often see that the battery is empty in one day. In this case the Ombia surprised us. When using the SMS and call function regularly and WiFi and the MP3 player for a half an hour the battery could sustain for about four days. Furthermore, the device is userfriendly due to its beautiful and intuitive interface. People that aren't used to a device with Windows Mobile software could use the Samsung Omnia as their first one. Our final mark comes down to an 8, this could have been a 9 when the display was easier to read in daylight and when it wouldn't be greasy all the time.

Oh I just can't resist... especially for the iPhone fan boys on here, a review from the same site as the above reviews!

Final conclusion:
All in all we have to say that the Apple iPhone is a real gadget with a fantastic and userfriendly interface but that it is disappointing for current standards in possibilities and specifications. When we focus on the target group the high-end specifications of many other smartphones aren't really needed for the Apple iPhone 3G. However, the lack of some - in our opinion - essential things like a good camera, bluetooth function and some limitations combined with the hefty pricetag, we have to conclude that the consumer may expect more for such a huge price. The superb functions compared to the things the device misses delivers a very realistic final mark of a 6.5.

Also another problem is that we all know that when a phone is first released it is way over priced.

And to tell you the truth when looking at the specs it does not have much more than the N82. In fact a glaring omission is the lack of Xenon flash... yes it has 16Gb onboard but I am more a fan of putting SD cards in.

Still has a poor flash and not much additional functionality over the N82. I'm surprised that Nokia would leave this out of it's flagship N-series model, considering that 6220 sports the same flash as the N82.

I always choose a phone 70% on what it looks like. Some of they features are a bit important, but the major factor for me is what the phone looks like.

If it is about the looks of an object why don't you become an art collector ?

The problem with both the N96 and Samsung is they will break. The N96 because it has moving parts and the Samsung because it is a Sumsung (they last about as long as Motorolas in my view). The N82 is a monoblock, and a Nokia, that is two ingredients for durability.

But, just another note...i was looking for a nice PMP to watch movies on, i don't see
myself watching a movie on the nokia's small screen.

I was watching a movie on the omnia yesterday and the quality was excellent
and the screen was beautiful (also perfect for navigation).

If this is a feature you want, than the omnia is the way to go...if you want a good flash, get the nokia.
(Although the omnia's flash isn't bad at all...will do some more testings tonight).

You can use the omnia with one hand and the virtual mouse (Without touching the screen).

Like i said before...the specs are very smiler, but the phones are so high speced that you cant tell someone "you bought the phone just for it's appearance".

I must say that i am very surprised with T3...i love the magazine and they always have good reviews, but the Garmin GPS is awesome, touch screen is great, and the widgets is a nice addition even though i use SPB.
