Nokia N95 @ Vodacom??

Oh!!:D The theme is the background, change it to Nokio and its all Nokio!;)

The thought of anything relating to Vodafone in my firmware, whether I could see it or not, would give me sleepless nights. Who knows what unseen code might still be running in the background.

Satguy, how about some instructions for how you un-branded yours. I might still decide to flash mine.

Codemaster-

Before you go any further, understand that if you debrand your phone you will most likely void your waranty and at this time there is no way to re-brand it (till such time as there is a Vodafone VLIVE update on the Nokia Update Service).

To unbrand you need to perform a few steps:-

1) Backup your phone using the Nokia Suite
2) Change the product Code of your N95 (which should be 0548026) to one which is generic (I used 0536062 - Euro 1 Plum). To do this you need to use a software tool called Nemisis Service Suite (freely available on the Web)
3) Perform a software update of your phone using the Nokia Update Service.
4) Restore your phone

I have read reports that restoring your phone after the update, has caused some N95's to 'brick', so I did not backup or restore - I would advise you to not to restore if at all possible.

You may also want to change your product code back to the original product code using Nemisis after the update, just in case you have a problem where the handset need to be returned.

Thanks for taking the time to do the guide :D
At this stage, the VLive! F/W isn't bothering me enough to take the risk. But I still have alot to go through on the phone, since it is my first Symbian phone.

Does Vodacom still have stock because im still waiting for the phone?

I know this is off topic but what HTC phone come after tytn?
and does the n95 have voice commands like WM?

I have been wanting this phone since i first saw it shown in about July last year, I finally received mine on thursday last week and it is truely a nice phone but i have managed to freeze it up 3 times since then & had to cycle the power on it, once it froze up completely, once it would just not ring when calls were received after i unplugged my earphones & once when trying to make calls (tried many different numbers) i could not hear anything even the ringing tone, even though the people on the other end say they could hear me. Anybody else have any of these problems ?

Gwily - I have also had mine for about a week now (F/W V11.0.026 17-04-07 RM-159 Nokia N95 (01.01)), and I have had no freezing problems. There are a couple of things I am not happy about, firstly the battery life is not all that great, not that I expected it to be as good as my 6310i, secondly the GPS has a few issues that I am sure will be resolved with subsequent firmware upgrades, apps like the bar code scanner simply do not work! Camera still needs improvement in certain areas as well.

Did you get it with the new F/W installed already?

Bar code scanner works perfectly. Just don't tell me you are tying to scan barcodes on your groceries and stuff.:D

Look at this.

Piesang - No I got it with V10.x.x firmware, I used the Nokia Upgrade Service to get the latest F/W.

I have tried to scan all / any barcode I can find - so far not found one it will read!

Thanks for the link, the one generated by the Nokia website it does read!!

It's not for barcodes on pricetags etc.. It's only for the barcodes created on the Nokia website.

Did you change your Product Code to update the F/W? As far as I know the new F/W is not available yet on the SA Product Code.

If I were you I'd wait for the proper SA F/W upgrade.

I'm sitting with an N95 on vodacom using the original firmware and am really dying for the new firmware...

You can't multitask on this phone... you start one task, like mxit or migg33 then you swap out to look up something on the web and when you wanna go back to mxit, it's gone...

it restarted on me 4 times yesterday... so either i'm pushing it too hard or this thing needs a firmware upgrade badly...

unfortunately, living in a country which, according to the powers that be usually doesn't exist, i'm not holding my breath waiting for this upgrade...

:-(

n95 & voda branding

I got mine today from VC :D :D

Now I just gotta get rid of the VodaCrap firmware. Will give it a few day to make sure that there are no major problems with the phone, then I'll flash it with original F/W. I am quite shocked that the firmware is HEAVY on the Vodafone branding... I was expecting a wallpaper and boot screen to be branded, but the phone has all those  red icons.

Anyone know of the easiest way to un-brand a N95?

Vlive branded phone come disabled with (to my knowledge)

1. Internet telephony
2. Push to Talk
3. Instant Messenger

In addition to all the vodafone live theme and icons.

anybody have more info on this??

Cheers

Thanks for the info on the barcodes.

Yes I changed its product code, then updated the F/W, I had an earlier experience with my P990 and also thought it was just a theme issue - well I was hoplessly wrong. I removed my N95 VLIVE F/W within 2 minutes of opening the box and I am quite happy running the EURO 1 F/W. I am not really going to wait for them to release SA F/W, but if and when the SA (non VLIVE) F/W is released I still have the option to change the product code again and reflash that. All the apps that TrueTenacity says are missing on his handset are on mine - have not tried to use them and may never use them. So far apart from a few minor issues (barcode reader now sorted, although IMHO limited), the version of firmware I am currently running seems to have very few bugs, certainly none that is obvious, no freezing or other issues that have been reported by N95 owners.

All the Symbian phone have that problem you can run Migg and Mxit together and even Opera, but if you have those 3 open and then go into the web browser soem of the apps close, and vice versa.

you know... i do believe i'm going to de-brand my phone when i get home!!! hee hee hee!!!

just the thought of putting everything back onto my phone is a little daunting.... amazing how much stuff you put on it in a week and a half!!!

tho most of it is on my memory card....

just the phonebook and calendar that's the real issue...
