So censorship is ok, as long as it helps you towards your ideal. That's good to know.

Yeah, pretty much sums up my reaction (agreeing with you, if that's unclear).

I live in Cape Town, so am quite out of the loop regarding eTolls, but have been shocked at the general low-level of intellectual debate offered by anti-eToll people on this forum.
Fine, you're upset, and you may well be absolutely correct and justified; but people are allowed to have a different opinion without being called "sheep", "fool", "co-conspirator" and worse.

Truth hurts. You support the rape of the country then you deserve to get called a lot worse. Treason comes to mind.

I've also been wondering about this ...I've searched but can't find the facts. Does anyone know?

I read somewhere (in one of the pricing docs) that you can buy a "day pass" for like R50, otherwise you pay the unregistered amount via the normal billing

You don't even care to update yourself with the e-tolls and yet expect your comment to be worthwhile?

Go find the facts then decide if someone supporting this system is a "fool" or not.

Wonder if they'd be able to clone the e-tags - e.g. 10 people on an etag identity - R450/10 = no problem

1. Thanks for proving my point :D
2. I wasn't commenting on the system. It was a general comment (on life) that, in this thing called a democracy, people are allowed to disagree with you. You can then present them with facts as to why you disagree. They can accept them, or reject them. Calling someone a fool does nothing to further your cause, it's only going to harden their position.
As a rational human being, I far prefer to read a forum containing rational debates and conversations rather than "You stupid country-raping fool, go die in a fire" over and over again.

That said, you doubtless disagree with me (refer to point 2), so carry on... :D

Ok, so my gut feel would be that their systems just wouldn't be able to optically recognise and process thousands of number plates. So what happens if I register but not get an e-tag - thus I still flood the system but can get some of the discounts?

Luckily I don't drive on the highways often!

I must say - they really are doing everything in their power (good and bad) to force us to get an etag. Here's hoping OUTA can get somewhere - the bit about criminal prosecution without proof sounds downright unconstitutional.

There are now 3 yesses = trolling level over 9000

Well done you.

Something that I've been wondering about... Why do we need an e-tag if they are using this so called "state-of-the-art" number plate recognition?

The only thing I can think of is to prevent the use of cloned number plates... But then wouldn't it have been easier and cheaper to get the metro's to do their jobs and actually check for cloned plates in the odd road block? I mean, without taking a bribe when they find one....

What point did I exactly prove? I don't seem to recall calling you any names.
