So what, they have the plans and many decades of photos and scans. They don't need the architect.
A building like this being a heritage building does not need to meet building codes in the way you're thinking.

What part of your brain thinks the French would want to modernise a building that draws 13 million people yearly to Paris?!?!?! I don't even being to comprehend how your brain came to that conclusion.

Only way I can see them restoring it to it's former glory is with the help of laser cutters. Hopefully they have 3D laser mapped images of the building. This incident would probably increase in the number of buildings being 3D mapped

its a heritage building, much of it has been held together with straps and plastic,
not to mention the pollution that eats away the limestone

and then there bigger issue of designing it again, yes photos will help, but all the intricate details
like all the gargoyles. those architects are long dead

how will that be reconstructed? wont that take quite long?
and will be closed for quite a while.

I mean its like the eiffel tower , isn't that going to be a pain to rebuild should it suddenly collapse,
I mean what if they stopped maintaining it wouldn't it rust and collapse?

It was being restored, to make it safe again.

All the intricate details have been mapped, and there are plans. You don't NEED the architect at that point, how is this difficult for you to grasp?

It will be closed for ages now yes, but it won't diminish the grandeur of the building, and people will flock back once its open.

A man has spent a year making a replica of Notre Dame Cathedral using 12,000 matchsticks.

David Harding from Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire said he put in about 1,000 hours of work, with each spire taking a week of painstaking gluing.

"It's just something to do... I really enjoyed doing it," he said.

The grandeur of the building has been lost IMO.

A lot individual effort went into the plethora of sculptures that adorned that building. That has been unequivocally lost as a 3D printed replica isn't the same as a the work of a stone mason in the 12th century pouring his soul into his work.
