NowTV

Is it just me or has NowTv improved the way they stream? Its buffering is now similar to Netflix.

I really hope they have. I will test on my Roku tonight but I have always had sub-standard SD quality with excessive buffering when streaming. I actually logged a ticket with UnoTelly to see if they could see anything wrong from there side, maybe they did something.

What device are you watching on and with what ISP?

Browser ATM but I'll check the roku and NowTV boxes later.

I just checked on my Roku, unfortunately no difference for me. Played at low SD quality for about 30 seconds and then the buffering started.

10 days left of my trial and my cancellation goes in.
It's available to the family but no-one watches it. Still just Netflix and Plex apps used.

Yeah, I also cancelled. Got until 3rd of June. Its such a shame it doesnt work!

Have you ruled out your ISP? You should out the free 1GB from WA.

I tried on Mweb Uncapped and Afrihost Capped, same excessive buffering. Two other myBB members also experience same issues on Roku and PS3. One of them is on OpenWeb Gold.

But I'll give WA a go, you never know.

I've tried plenty accounts and WA have by far given the best streaming performance. VOX is also right up there.

It's the reason I'm on Web Africa business now.

Gave WA a go, unfortunately exactly the same buffering occurs. I actually believe that the various apps for NowTV are using pings in their steaming code, and because we get 180ms+ pings to the UK, it creates issues.

Thanks for your input though.

Still haven't checked mine.

You can try to lower the streaming bitrate (try lowest 0.3Mbps setting) on the Roku from the hidden bitrate override settings menu - Home X5 Rew X3 FF X2 i.e. press Home key 5 times followed by Rew 3 times and FF twice at ~1s intervals. This feature may not be supported by some channels.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot.

So I tried NowTV this evening in one last ditch attempt to see if I can get it to work before my pass expires on 3rd June. Low and behold, I am watching Game of Thrones with no buffering.

Can anybody else who has been struggling with buffering confirm if they can watch?

Oooooo. Will try just now. The reminder on my phone has just gone off reminding me to cancel.
Will let you know.

I spoke too soon....buffering is back :(

At least I got to watch most of episode 7

Discovery streaming just fine here. Playback gets a bit choppy at times but no buffering.
