I change my number all the time to stay one step ahead of law enforcement.
I've had the same Vodacom no since 1999While on this topic:
How many mobile numbers have you had? / What was your longest period of having the same number?
I got my number the day before Vodacom launched (did not work for them at the time), and I still have it, 30 years .on the same number.![]()

Wanted to ask, since posted in another thread, why do South African networks not swap/add support for 12 digit numbers? Should help with having to recycle it.While on this topic:

I still have my PAYG Vodacom number in the UK. I don't use it often though, I mainly receive SMS and scam calls.I go one step further. I blacklist your phone too for good measure.
Seriously though.....this seems to have been a error as recharges counts towards activity on the number. It should therefore not have been deleted. Must be escalated to CSOC
Make a call or send an sms every 60daysI still have my PAYG Vodacom number in the UK. I don't use it often though, I mainly receive SMS and scam calls.
What should I be doing to avoid it being "deleted" ?
That is now troubling, seems our numbers are not safe from this. I can't imagine losing a number I have been using for 26 years and one that is active and recharged every month. Please keep us updated!
A colleague had the same thing happen, except her number was given to someone else. It was not a PAYG number that was inactive, it was used daily.
Although Vodacom admitted error, they could not give her the same number back. Pathetic.
I cannot understand how you can admit to error and not rectify it. Fck the new guy who's got the number you had for decades. Bloody hell. That is now troubling, seems our numbers are not safe from this. I can't imagine losing a number I have been using for 26 years and one that is active and recharged every month.
Gosh Jannie. You must treasure your number. I have had a few numbers since a child on prepaid ..but then when I started working for Vodacom Shop I got my first contract phone. I was 20. A few month later though I had Vodacom assign me a new number though because some guy I dated turned phsyco. Had to have him removed from the store by security also. Was not pretty. Anyway...had that same number till this day. I suspect I will have the same number till I am a old oom in a rocking chair. And I want nothing else but a 082 number. Those 07 ** or 06 ** numbers just don't have the same ring to it lol. While on this topic:

I thought this was why we had to RICA and crap so we could prove ownership of a number and retain that number. Thats some pretty kak service from Vodascum. That is now troubling, seems our numbers are not safe from this. No. RICA is to make sure a ID number is linked to any and all numbers with physical address for crime investigation. ICASA recycling rules still apply to prepaid. One a number is recycled RICA information is removed (though I am sure retained for a set amount of time).I thought this was why we had to RICA and crap so we could prove ownership of a number and retain that number. Do you change address all the time too?I change my number all the time to stay one step ahead of law enforcement.
I use 1 Saxonwold Drive.Do you change address all the time too?
With most people using WhatsApp and Telegram and Google Meet calls these days, one of the main means to authenticate prepaid users have become redundant. That is to input last 5 numbers dialed. Those have to be via convential calling....not through a app. Only other way to authenticate is via original PIN an PUK number of the sim that was lost. Keep the card holder that your sim comes with safe. You can hand it to the store and they will use that to authenticate you.I know a few people who've lost their prepaid numbers when their phone was stolen and they were unable to answer the security questions correctly when trying to do a sim swop. Not even going in person to the network provider's physical shops with their ID was able to solve the problem.
