as TonyA says you can only port every few months.. not sure the exact time.

only every 2 months and then still have to be approved by new operator. Question also about additional costs if you also received a phone on contract who pays for the outstanding purchase price that was subsidised by original network supplier?

I believe the subsidy of the phone is built into your contract and if you switch you still have to finish your contract with the current provider...(maybe there will be a buy out option.. in which case you will pay for the phone)

I dont see how this is gonna help with fixed lines. I mean as things stand at the moment you cant even keep the same number with the big T if you move to a new suburb so how are they everr gonna be able to allow you to keep the same number if you switch from T to snot?

That is still my biggest gripe about T i mean I pay to have my installation etc done, I then move like two blocks away and the new house falls under a different exchange and I have to pay an entirely new installation charge and my frikking number changes. I mean wtf is wrong with these ppl? its two blocks away for crying in a bucket.

Seriously - that's your biggest gripe with telkom? How often do you move?

My biggest gripe comes in the form of a bill for r1000 that they send me every month.

I see a potential problem with the billing issue. If you have an outstanding bill or billing query you won't be able to move.

Understand why cellular companies have that stipulation but chances are that if I want to move companies it is because they have overcharged or messed up my bill. So who adjudicates?

People for one thing.. the MNP CANNOT be done in 4 weeks, especially in sa!! I know a few people who work for accenture(who consult for cellc) and they were laughing at this.Unless you have 500 people working on the project in 4 weeks, it cannot be done in 4 weeks.. Overseas you have BIG companies wth BIG budgets who can hire 1000 people, contractors consultants etc. to get it done in record time....Its obviously not the same in sa..

10 people working for 3 months is 30 man months, or 900 man days.
30 people working for 1 month is 30 man months, or 900 man days.

I CANNOT see the difference. It CAN be done in 4 weeks (hell it can be done in 4 days).

i dont actually understand,..

say i am a vodacom pay as u go user,... for years though,...

then i like mtn's deals, and decidee on a mtn contract,...

are you saying that i don't have to lug two phones around anymore,... that i can get my new mtn sim to respond to my vodacom number,...

further which would be grander still,...
does all this mean that i can be on mtn contract, use my old voda number, AND now use the voda network again,.. this would be great as then i could get back that internet speed which i had on the voda network,..

???? can anyone clear this up for me? please,..
