Nvidia 8600GT in SA?

lol brawler

yea man the 8600gts should be the price of 7900gs

less than 1.8k

PC 123 has it as R2500.

Yeah these cards are being overcharged. a Quick search on froogle gets me prices for the 8600gt to be $152=R1078 and this is retail pricing but somehow this gets to R2500 when it lands in SA.

8600 gts $212=R1504

If anyone is brave enough I suggest using myus.com and importing. You will save allot of money but won't have no local warranty.:(

I know it'll only bring R1500 but when the 8600gt gets released here, it'll be worth less than that because you should get the 8600gt for about R2000 so why not spend the extra bucks ;)

remember 1500 is to the guy your rippin off hey

remember nobody who is knows anything about dx 10 will buy a dx 9 card now :)

so either sell it now or your screwed and put the extra money into a 8800gts 320 rather

birgin has good rates on there credit cards

LOL @ SA pricing.
Whatever it is we smoke this side, it sure is good. Maybe we should be exporting that...
Since NVIDIA started in the mid 90s no mid-range part has ever been more than $199, yet in SA we've never paid less than R2K for these cards...
Now that you can get 8600GTS for $169 there are those selling for R3K. Pah I say, that's about R1K over the price if not more.

To import two would cost me less than it would this side to buy 1, and I'd still have change...

I was thinking more R1500 now isnt ripping them off, i often look at the clasifieds on pcformat, prophecy & systemshock and most people are selling their 7900gt's and 7800's for abour R1500 at the moment

I didnt say its slow, & I had a 5200 & MX440, i know what slow is :)

A friend of mine upgraded from a GeForce 2 to a 7900GTX a while back (when a 7900GTX was still top-of-the-line). You can imagine his face when his PC booted up :D

I almost forgot I made this thread..

Shock I think this shop is overcharging a bit because they are getting them in before anyone else. Prophecy or Sybaritic will hopefully have them for cheaper in a week or two when they are actually available in SA.

If the GT is around R2000 I might sell my 7800GT to get one, but im a bit sceptical of 128bit, thats a downgrade :(

I'd like to see some benchmarks too then, it better run some DX10 titles well. Too bad none are out yet :p

What are you talking about, the MX440 was one of the best sellers ever. Similar with the 5200 I think... its terrible what these companies make stupid people buy.

But its got 256mb RAM (on a 64bit bus) its got to be good. These days they make their entry cards with 512mb RAM just to fool people.

The prob is I got those 2 cards when it was towards the end of their lives so when I got it, it could run games, just not well & well now they are basically useless, my 5200 died when they released the first F.e.a.r. :( , it couldnt even handle it on lowest of low....

That's interesting, 'cause a friend of mine is running F.E.A.R (on the lowest possible settings of course) with an FX5200 and a 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 with quite playable framerates, so he says.

Or maybe he doesn't want to face reality :D

Just out of curiosity, how much difference does the extra ram make on the 8800gts 320mb against the 640mb version or will it when dx10 games come out?

Depends at what resolution. Upto 1680 x 1050 it makes no difference. Same speed virtually. Above that and the extra ram counts.

Some say dx10 games it might make a difference with texture sizes but nobody is sure here.

But as a midrange card it's great value.

Cause they are selling for R2800 at eurobyte & im not planning on running my games higher than 1280x1024...

I bought the Chaintech Geforce 8800GTS 320MB and I must say I AM IMPRESSED! All my games run with 1280x1024, 8xCSAA and highest quality and not a single one runs slow (Quake 4 runs so well I was surprised at how much quicker the game play becomes, FPS definitely makes a difference!)

The only thing is the heat! I had the card in the primary PCI-Express slot (closest to the CPU) but the heat was incredible, you can't touch the heat sink and it could serve as a heater in the winter! (Chipset went from 42 degrees to 49 degress on idle!)

Decided to move the card to the second PCI-Express slot (seeing as my M2N32 SLI Wireless Deluxe runs x16 on both PCI-Express slots), now the system runs like before I had the 8800GTS.

For those interested the package doesn't include any games but it includes every single connector you could possible need!

As for the 8800GTS vs 8600GTS, the 8600gts isn't a match, the memory bandwidth is far less on the 8600 and although it performs well it doesn't come close to the 8800GTX/GTS
