Nvidia GeForce GTX 295

I have a 4870X2 and having read every review there is (I think...) IMHO the 4870X2 beats the living daylights out of every Nvidia SLi setup you can imagine. If that is 2 off 260's (or even 280's) I would still stick with the 4870X2.

LOL... Fanboism is great but the truth is better though :)
GTX 295 is not GTX260 slapped together. GTX260 has 192/216 stream processors. Each core on the 295 has 240 stream processors. That's the same as GTX280
And in case you weren't aware GTX280 in SLI is much faster than single 4870X2 and it makes sense cause GTX280 is faster than 4870. ;)

GTX295 is going to be faster than 4870X2 obviously, the cores are higher clocked than they were on GTX280 even though mem bandwidth is down, the GTX260 and 280 always had more than enough...

I have a 4870X2, in fact two actually and yes they are fast, but fastest Graphics configuration in the world now is 3-way SLI. that's 3 GPUs >> 4 GPUs in ATI's RV7XX line. That should give you an idea of scaling.

May I change my mind after my recent experience with ATI? :o

I'm inclined to agree, though I'm going to wait until final benchmarks are released before I side one way or another.

i wouldnt rush to crown nvidia yet, ATI is releasing their HD49xxx next month as well. I'm afraid nvidia wont get the crown back that easily .....

I don't really care if Nvidia have the performance crown for now until forever. The price/performance doesn't justify it for me.

When I buy a card I just look at who gives me the best performance for my budget though. All of the other cards doesn't really matter to me.

Quote "However, it is unlikely Nvidia will be able to match AMD in this dual GPU price war. If Nvidia ever get close enough, AMD will cut their price further."

I think consideration for costs is becoming more important in today's economic climate, not only in SA but worldwide. If Nvidia cannot compete with AMD on costs, they will have a difficult time maintaining sales levels in the coming year IMHO.

Wonder how much the 49xx is going to cost?

that depends on how they perform, and whether or not AMD is still willing to beat the hell out of Nvidia... those are still single card solutions, and so i don't think the top of the range will hit above R4000.

but this does mean that amd might be getting ready of a price cut on all it's current cards, which means that would put immense pressure on Nvidia(you'd find the hd4850 at the same or lower price ad/then the 9800gt)

seems like AMD's not wanting to play nice here...

LOL! dude - even the budget 4830 whoops the 9800GT, and that's WAAAAAAY cheaper than a 4850!

Does a 4830 beat a 9800GT? WOW
When I finally get my system next year I'll probably get a 4970

The 4850/4830 are more or less the same price in this country. Go figure.

GTX295 has lower power consumption than R700 :P
Thought it would, but now to ee if it runs cooler

well the 4830 doesn't whip the 9800gt, rather it beats it at most gamers by 2-5fps

but if, there is a price cut after the 49x0 release then the hd 4850 would most likely be at the 9800gt's price point, which means good luck to Nvidia and trying to get sales... well, at least my fingers are crossed :D
