Nvidia GeForce NOW SA launch

They buggered up the website last time as well with a revamp. Doubt they would kill such a in demand service, should be a decent cash cow for them, setup and forget.

that would be so cool.
fingers crossed

edit: but i have doubts due to how Rain operated the service

They spend millions of us dollars on the cluster. If you are in that deep you can't simply walk away and take the loss so I have my doubts that it's getting discontinued. Either a website issue or someone else taking over.

Yea ive seen that amount and its mental.
I wasn't thinking a full throwaway as such, just something similar to another alliance partner that left the service in the past and Rain is all full steam ahead with the whole AI stuff, would just use the cluster for part GDN and whatever AI workloads they deem fit.

also wow, holy vibe coded dashboard.

forgot how nice it was to not wait for a game to finish downloading but damn, holy cpu bottleneck (excuse the flashbang)

It would make no business sense.

  1. There is huge demand for the service
  2. Tech wise its just a hardware hosting
  3. Then a simple auth gateway for the alliance partner to handle
  4. Partner handles billing and local tax concerns.
I can understand fears of expanding the service due to saturation, especially with both Amazon, Google and MS increasing their local datacenters footprints ( Amazon has Luna and MS has Cloud gaming, I think Googles might be closed ). They likely need to recoup the hardware investment, consider ROI for profit vs expansion or there is a threshold to trigger the expansion/risk point.

I'm happy i was wrong

now get us those 5080s so i can be more happy @rain_mobile

I wish we had the steam library option... where you can run a limited amount of non gfnow games, can't remember the term.

And lol at being quoted 😅

"10s of millions"
nice little bit of transparency from rain but wow, sucks for anyone wanting to join the service anytime soon

Pretty much what I thought. The original hardware investment is fine but to scale the service requires more clusters and additional hardware investment which yah, is a big issue world wide around GPUs.

I do wonder though if that won't swing at some point as models require more headroom and the "older" won't cut it. Will we see a "glut" of old hardware on the market like with what happened with a lot of BTC gpu crypto miners? Will the hardware still be able to be used to provide the gaming service, even if its just on the lower tiers? With Amazon and MS both expanding footprint, will they finally bring their cloud gaming services here or focus on local hosted AI more? Another avenue for those big cloud providers to shuffle kit in a DC and still get more return. There is also a lot about local ai compute devices now but they have also got a high initial outlay and the reality is still frontier models via subscription vs cloud hosted ( i.e. frontier but closed like Azure Foundry ) vs local and the cost factors between them all.

Interesting times.

Scale.
I wonder if this was in their mind at the time of their additional investment into the 4080 / L40S hardware.

They just replaced instead of doing it like another partner where the 3080 / A10G GPUs moved to serve performance tier only and thus resulted in extra capacity all around.

maybe in a few years when they decide to cross the 100m mark with 5080s, they'll do so as extra capacity.
