Nvidia GeForce NOW SA launch

Why is Rain so quite about this ?
No public information to entice the casual gamer's out in the public to look forward to this.
It should be something EPIC in South Africa, or the initial "In the know" and word of mouth grows the platform.
Then once everything is still good, mass advertising will commence.

Probably because I imagine they don't have a huge number of servers

Yebo. Assuming they’re sizing or working on their finances around their findings from the beta.

The thing is not everyone that signed up for the beta got an invite.

If it wasn't for the loophole for me to join I would have never gotten an invite. Friends and family that I asked to join never got invites.

We did things the African way lol. How better to test their capacity lol.

Exactly and I definitely made use of it. Almost every night and weekend I was playing games on the platform.

It was like a free trial for me to see how it works before committing to a paid plan.

That said I don't think they can judge numbers by the beta unless they are looking at the amount people that expressed interest and not necessarily the amount of people that got in.

I mean of course the servers aren’t completely idle with devs constantly developing GFN here, but the servers are certainly sitting at their absolute minimum capacities and that’s a complete loss for rain atp

Think if they look at who actually paid the R1-R3 it would be a good filter for how many users they had and how their servers performed. There were only a few days I experienced a wait time which tells me a bulk of their usage was when peeps were home possibly during load-shedding.

Their lacklustre invite system should get looked at.

ASUS should fix the Ally to work better with the app.

But all in all I enjoyed my time with the beta and will most probably sign up since I don’t have a gaming PC.

If you don't mind, can you elaborate more on that lacklustre part?
General thoughts, some about the invite system :

1. People who requested access don’t get in but people who requested during the beta somehow got in.
2. Why call it a public beta if people couldn’t actually get in without an invite?
2.1) While I got in with hacks, one-use tokens/keys would be better to lock down invites moving forward. Many ways to skin a cat.
3. While I understand making sure you don’t go bankrupt, ascertaining how many users signed up VS how many played consistently for 10 sessions would allow the general gaming population to find out if they liked the service and would def subscribe VS Or it being their thing.
4. R20-R30 would have been okay to get into the beta still, R1-R3 bar which would test out the servers for the month assuming 100k gamers testing the service in the first month.

Just my general thoughts I’d advise the team on. Have an actually open Beta with all the tiers for another month. R10-R30. See if people are actually keen going into December/Jan. Buy the instances needed for a year for better cost projections and scale up as more users join.

More surveys around what can people afford via email (I don’t answer most calls) and what can be made better (routing) and work from there.

Again, really impressed with what Rain got up and running. I’d like them to make it even better and accessible to us plebs that can’t afford Gaming Rigs

Hmmm..
Thanks for thorough elaboration :D

Public beta means to the public, not necessarily open. Common terms:

Private/Public
Open/Closed

Private is normally very very specific testers, Public is any Joe soap. Open means no invite required, closed means invite.

Normal cycles run:

Private
Public Closed ( invite only )
Public Open ( anyone )

Suggested dev goals for same tiers:

Bug testing pre Public involvement and hardware.
Bug testing for non development and on unknown hardware.
Primary goal testing at scale for bugs on unknown hardware.

I is aware :)
Purposely obtuse on some factors so people here don’t go look for me on LinkedIn lol as has happened before :)

I switched back to my other, non-rain, account and most regions are at capacity now, even the ones that were always available before.

Has anyone else been experiencing this? Guess it might be because of the new Fortnite and BG3 update:unsure:

From that api call, those session lengths are shocking iif we are paying the same as internstional prices . 90 mins vs 6 hours and 3 hours vs 8 hours.

Price should be lower to compensate or lengths brought inline.

The tiers have been updated.

- Priority session length has been increased to 3 hours, there's also a R160 discounted price that's to come as well.
- Ultra (RTX 3080 Tier) has been increased to 8 hours with a discounted price of R320 to come as well.
Not sure how these discounts will be applied though.

That on the api? More palatable but if they ever go parity in price, they should match. But to get folks on and build capacity , 3 hours is not bad and I think the 6 was a recent doubling internationally of established offerings for priority.

If there is a free tier coming , then make that 60 but only available with empty space and the right to warn about disconnection with some grace. Or offer it later once player stats are known and a buffer can be provisioned between expected and allowed capacity.
