O/T from "Windows 10 warns users not to install Chrome and Firefox" thread

I dunno if I'm blind or not that involved in gaming anymore but I can't see a difference at all.
Neither can most people. With AMD throwing a spanner in the works the "need" for DX12 is decreasing. Developers will rather start focusing on multi-core support and Linux.

Huh? Can you name one game that doesn't have multi-core support that's post 2005? Do you mean scaling past ~4-6 cores? This depends on the game, you need to control how many threads you create, too little and you aren't taking advantage, too many and the cores can't take advantage/too many resources wasted in creating/destroying threads, and then at what point is the logic unable to scale, which is the main reason you need higher clocks on a CPU for gaming.

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance - 2007 :P

Yes multi-core. Not just dual core and then where one does the interface and the other the graphics. Historically designers have had a poor concept of what multi-core means.

That's a standalone expansion pack based on Supreme Commander, are they using the same engine as the one from 1997 just with updated textures? Did they run on a shoestring budget?

huh, didn't know about the 2007 release, but that proves that it does use multi-core, but keeps too much logic in one thread/core, so badly optimized or optimized perfectly well considering most machines were single/dual core with some quad cores.

I think you don't understand how difficult it is to actually use multiple cores properly, there is only so much game logic you can split off the main core, most things are not independent of one another.

EDIT:
And btw, I can't think of any modern games that don't scale to 4 cores or up.
This league on a mediocre N3700, note the CPU usage for a game that is not very demanding being split:

Other older AAA titles like BF3:

So I don't think you have any clue what you're talking about.
If it's some tiny Indie publisher or a small game where it makes no sense to optimize it as single core performance is more than enough, why would you? Name a title that doesn't scale above 2 cores that's modern and is not an Indie publisher.
Scaling above 4 cores, now that's another matter and yes, there you can argue a bit, think most games scaled up to about 6 cores, past that not really as it takes work to scale higher and diminishing returns.

That can be said of most programs.

See the edit. And please name games that don't scale past dual cores.
Here is FF and Spotify, non-games that have more than 2 threads, so scale past two cores (though how well it scales is an entirely different matter, and numerous threads != better core scaling, I am just showing this as FF definitely scales past two cores).

I think even Risk of rain scaled, and that's a tiny game that looks like this:

Though I can't guarantee that as I don't have it installed anymore (screenshot is one of the top Google results).

You download the stuff, and view it in quick view pro or paint shop Pro. Additional advantage is you don't know what kindof porn it is, so you will get a surprise.

How the heck did a browser war propoganda thread become a graphics.....something thread?
The moment Google updated Chrome to look and feel more like Edge

I pointed out bul$%it in your posting, and now you tell me that Homegroup is a legacy. Legacy of XP? .LOL. Perhaps I should list features which first time appeared in Windows 10 and are not anymore. It is a waste of time, a new unfinished version of Win10 is coming out next month, I noticed already increased MS propaganda.
No you didn't.. You just made random bollocks statement that have zero basis in reality.. Just stick with xp and your iPhone 4... The rest of us will upgrade and enjoy the benefits.

MS propaganda is increasing in preparation for October release.
More BS.

@Swa just started a LoL game, look at the lovely scaling:

(cpu drop is because nothing is changing on the screen, spike was during loading screen.)
Now game has started after loading screen, stuff happening on the screen in regards to effects/characters moving:

I didn't say they don't scale past dual-core, but few games are written specifically to take advantage of more cores. A few mainstream titles being the exception doesn't really prove a rule. There is a noticeable difference between the two when run on 2 cores vs 8 cores.

I don't know what your snippet there is showing.

Plenty of games which show no remarkable difference with 8 cores and then there are those which really do. You seem to think that multi-threaded automatically means it's going to scale to multi cores. Why do you think Ryzen has had no massive impact if games so easy scale to multiple cores?

You still haven't mentioned one. I still don't see you mention any games that don't scale past two cores.

You don't seem to get the point, they don't scale WELL beyond two cores. It isn't about single games but gaming as a whole. Sheesh, first I had an argument on this forum with someone who said that Ryzen has no benefit as games don't scale well beyond dual core and now I'm having one with you who claims that they do.

Well at least there has been some progress, even though this thread has been derailed but not one mention of XP...
