Oasis

Odd that someone who likes music seems to miss the point that sometimes you just like something without having a bunch of reasons why. It's like asking someone to tell you why they think a certain food is good. I mean - if I like eating plain rice and tomato sauce I don't really care if you don't like it, nor do I care to sell you on the idea. Sometimes music just reminds people of a time and place in their life and that's enough for them to say they like the music.

Are Oasis basic? Yeah sure. Do I enjoy Champagne Supernova and a few other songs? Yeah sure.
you see that is something I can live with.

the song has personal meaning due to time and place, that is a reason. and its not a reason anyone can take away.

doesnt mean the song is good. I have a lot of personal meaning attached to songs that is the point of music.

you managed to sell me on your opinion and that is better than everyone else managed.

Well at least the Oasis thread got some solid traction, for better or worse.
Definitely maybe.

They're not close to my top 10, but if they came to Cape Town, I'd get some tickets. We'll probably have to wait 10 years for Liam to start calling the other one potato again, then stop, then tour.

I listen to a lot of different genre's of music. from deathcore to drum and bass, rap ,trap and hip hop. a good song is a good song.
I spent 40 mins defending Taylor swift because the song anti hero is a good song. I have spent a lot of time convincing people to listen to Lorna shore, because the pain remains is a good song. I have introduced so many people to chase and Status because Badadan (and backbone) is a good song.

Oasis does not have a good song. every single one of their songs is the same thing, but again I listen to a lot of Sabaton so that is not an issue. but defending Oasis is like defending Kurt Darren. 3 cords, D,A and G that is all that every song is made of. and that is true for both of them.

Dont just list a song, tell me why you think its good. a good argument for why Bjork is worth listening to had me suffer though an album of hers to try and find what that person expressed as good. I could understand their point, but I still wish I never listened to the album.
so point out what makes the song good musically and I will go and listen with an open mind.

I will give you an example.
in the Pain remains by Lorna shore, the way the song is arranged you can understand the pain the protagonist is experiencing in its raw form. the guitar work becomes a voice on its own expresses as much pain as the vocalist is singing about. there is a moment (4:19 or so) where that solo explains the pain of loosing someone better than words can ever express, and as soon as that solo is over the vocalist comes in and sums up that feeling and its like you are staring into the face of a broken man at a funeral who has not said a word but finally turned to you and in a few simple words left you feeling as deeply hurt as he did, but that was not his intention, he just wanted to share his thoughts with someone and you were closest. there is more context to the song, there is an entire album worth of story that leads to that moment, and that is only part 1 of the 3 songs that all come together to illustrate the different stages of grief though music in a way like nothing I have ever experienced, it takes the theoretical examples of the stages of grief and lays it bare in front of you theory becomes reality and you can truly feel it even though it is not your pain.

be warned Lorna shore is a deathcore band, the vocalist does things with his voice most people cant stand to listen to. its not for everyone, and in fact most people will not make it very far into the song before turning it off simply for how he sings. but when you understand that the vocals are a percussion instrument rather than a melodic element, and the guitars bring the melodic element that people expect from vocals, and you understand that the lyrical content require the aggressive vocals in order to get the message across there is a way to make it though and understand it.

now sell me an Oasis song.

No need to thank me...

For those hoping to catch the performances on TV, from what I understood on Sky, they won't be filmed.

I have the first album on vinyl, I remember making some sacrifices to get it.

yeah sucks when someone backs up their argument with links right?

but I am the one who needs to cope?

how about you go listen to some Oasis and make your day better?
how about you go tell your mom you won this argument online today so she can give you a nice ice cream after dinner

if I recall correctly the brothers gallagher saw the stone roses and thought to themselves "we can do this"

so thats what they set out to achieve, whether they are better or worse than other bands is immaterial really
