Official 10.7 Lion Thread...

All the more reason to hassle Apple directly over it. If more people did it, it would get fixed.

No I don't think they would. Why? Because the problem is not that there's something wrong with how mouse acceleration in OSX behaves (it's the same as every other Unix, BTW). The problem is that it's different to Windows. Get used to it.

Have not encountered that behaviour in the BSD variants, HP-UX, Solaris or Linux.

Nah, I'm not going to adapt to something that is fscked up. It's not like I'm a lone voice either.

Wait, what behaviour exactly are you talking about? I'm talking about it having an acceleration curve, which (as far as I remember) Windows doesn't.

It does but it's not nearly as aggressive as OS X, it only becomes more prominent (but still not close to OS X) at the higher pointer speed settings. The same goes for those other OSs I mentioned.

This is something pretty much unique to OS X.

Lol, when you google Windows mouse acceleration curve all it pops up with is endless links related to OS X.

I'm not trying to be anal here or anything like that but it's definitely an issue for many OS X users out there. It's fine when using a trackpad but not a normal mouse.

Another thing is that the OS X curve starts to go down near the higher pointer speeds, i.e. it brings in negative acceleration. I want to punch the tech in the face that developed it in the first place.

The waiting line is long so fall in at the back :D

I used to overshoot my target all the time in the beginning.

I have no idea what this mouse acceleration is that you all are talking about. Please explain. My mouse moves perfectly normally across the screen.

Google OS X mouse acceleration and read a few of the gazillion or so hits.

If you google "9/11 conspiracy" you'll also get a gazillion hits.

I read a few of these articles about the OSX acceleration. The first one talks about the acceleration curve looking more like a cliff. Seriously? Five years of delicate mousing and I haven't had this problem. Maybe it's something to do with those high-frequency mice you use?

Ja, I fail to see anything. My mouse has never given me over or under shoot issues. Must be a switcher thing. It mentions that OS 9 never had this "problem" in that link. Then, I should have noticed something when I moved from 9 to X and I can honestly not recall any such thing.

You guys are right, nothing wrong with the mouse acceleration, other & myself are just trolling for the hell of it ;)

Hardly. But it's clearly a subjective preference thing, based on expectations cultivated on another OS.

What did they say when you contacted them about it?

For others - the place to request features for OsX is http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

Because it's more fun to bitch about it on forums....

"..., we will contact you directly" how i long for that day.

:P

I looked at the features for the new OS but it seems like they are more tweaks rather than major revamp

I was using Pages to write an assignment the other day and I must say I find that MS Word does a much better job from my experience!

Well you're probably just more used to MS Office. I find Pages way better.
