Official 2011 Rugby World Cup Thread

The one interesting thing I've noticed about us is that far too often we land up with backline players involved in rucks where they really shouldn't. Nine times out of ten it's because our forwards simply do not run on as support players enough. It's either an age thing or a fitness one. The other one time is the result of stupid decisions running away from support...

We had backline players trying to clean out rucks all the time. Danie and Matfield aren't great at cleaning out so it seems like the backline player get sucked in. I hope with guys like Andries Bekker back as well as bakkies well have more oomph in that department.

How old is bakkies? He seems to have been around forever. Perhaps it's time to start rebuilding and blood in some youngsters because let's be honest we got dinosaurs in our team now :D. I know 30-31 is hardly old but in rugby it is. We need to ensure we have a new bakkies, habana etc for the next world cup.

PVD has called time on his bok career, cheers don't let the door hit you on the way out

Killa, I think our players found their form at the right time for a world cup. I don't think there were any rusty players today. We played a bloody good game and I do blame the ref for our loss for reasons I've already posted. And because I'm a Sharks man so it's in my blood...:D

Bakkies will probably call it a day ,together with Matfield and Smit.

End of an era.

In hindsight a better blend of youngsters with the ballies would have been ideal.

Lots to look forward to...enough talent and depth around moving forward...

That's true Killa but these players clearly aren't that easy to find. I would love a Bekker and Alberts combo but I doubt that will happen. Older players mustn't be discarded just for the sake of it. If they're good enough then let them play.

All the handling errors would suggest something different, how many times did we knock on at the wrong time? It's been an issue for most of the world cup, handling errors and silly mistakes by players who look slightly off the pace.

Not saying their rest was the issue it just seems we make so many handling errors and i thought it would get better after the welsh game but sadly it didn't. Yes the ref tried his hardest to ensure we lost but we also threw away many chances to break the aussies defense, either with handling errors, not sucking in the defense and laying off way too early. In all we played a good game but it was not a perfect game and we needed perfection to break that aussie defense. It wasn't there sadly but anyways was a great game and one stupid error cost us the game.

I am not sure why a pro rugby player would do something so idiotic with 10 minutes to go :(

SA only conceded 4 penalties in the entire match!!! Outstanding discipline!! For me the big difference in the coaching staff has been Rassie and Nienaber!! Would love to see Rassie take over as coach...

Yeah Rassie has done a great job. I suppose that the one great thing about not winning this wc is that when it comes to picking a new coach, politics should play less of a role...

I'm still disappointed with our backline coaching to an extent. I'd like to see someone like Grant Bashford pulled in as a permanent backline coach...

SA will continue playing to their strengths. Big pack of forwards and always well organised. Playing exciting running rugby is not really "Bok style "

I think you'll see us begin to perfect the hybrid balance between tight and loose rugby. We've played some good running rugby lately. And you can't call what we played today "tight rugby."
